    ancient Greeks

Athenians actually - not the Spartans, Corinthians and many others with various "tyrants" or Persians in charge.

And interestingly, it was a direct participatory democracy, if you did not attend the public meetings you were "useless".

It also had a legal structure behind it, Solon very important with others.

There were three very important points of discussion for centuries, freedom, justice and luxury.

In many ways monotheism is an institutionalisation of tyrannical rule.

When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.

^On the other hand, some credit monotheism with developing an idea that men from all tribes (even gypsies and turks, but except MAB) could be equal (given they can grasp divine truth). This they say was the origin of our modern (Western) ideal of equality. (Please - balanced and fair review of monotheism, kthnx).

(^Like, sooo not pc to put "western" in parentheses, don't you think?)
