Ah the horse, who's majesty is left behind, in a trail of horeshit as it saunters down your street.  Truly arabs indeed.

I love the story of Kahina.  I seriously still want to write a historical fiction novel about her.  Her legend still needs to be more widely known.

Actually its already been done, http://georgekelley.org/?p=5122. But there's no film yet, so how about a screen play?

Or what about an illustrated book aimed at kids with stories of all these historic women leaders, and in Arabic of course.

Umm if every book that was already done was never done again, we'd have pretty empty libraries.

It may have been done, but not like I will do it.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

    Fridah Kahlo

Others might not consider her a role model, but she is certainly one of mine. She reportedly said: "I was born a bitch. I was born a painter."

I need to find a female role model. It's weird when I can't think of any female highly enough that doesn't have to do with sex. Hmm.....

    Ishina explains it well here:

That bitch was ruthless. The real Mother Teresa was nothing like the public image. She was the head of a death cult. She surrounded herself with death and suffering. She actually promoted poverty and suffering rather than trying to ease it in any way.

She was up to all kinds of heinous shit, denying children antibiotics, letting patients suffer so she could play the part of the saviour and say some prayers at the last moment. She'd convert people as they were dying. She’d refuse medicine with the excuse that they would be going to meet God soon anyway, and suffering like Christ suffered is the highest virtue and measure of commitment. When she got sick herself, where did she go? To the best American doctors she could get.

She had a slave empire for all intents and purposes - women forced into convents against their own will, which she treated like shit. She was an old school Bible purist and had repulsive ideas about womens rights centred around submission, chastity and abuse.

The biggest mystery of her life is where the fuck all the money went because she didn’t spend it all on hospitals or charity. Her idea of a hospital was a cold iron bed and no pain killers, filthy and forgotten about. People have come forward describing her hospitals as resembling concentration camps. People afriad to come forward, should I say. Who would dare criticise a saint?

Mother Teresa - one of the most overrated people in history. The more I learn about her the more I wonder what the fuck all the fuss was about and the more I wanna throw up. Is that haggard, evil whore really your role model?

The woman was a charlatan, embezzler, and a sadist. One of the biggest cons and perpetuators of misery in recent history is not someone to be admired in my book.

Afro Afro Very good role model. BTW she surely must not have needed UKRC's 'help' or the 'help' from the sisterhood to become proficient at what she chose to do.

I think that Mother Theresa was all about the need for the Catholic church to promote itself - to show itself bringing light to the 'pagan heathens' of India. She was first promoted by people like Malcolm Muggeridge in the west who was a born-again Catholic. It was basically Catholic-dawah for the masses. No matter which way you cut it, there is a problematic chauvinism to that, and the discovery that her methods of treatment were less than humane and ideal just shows that their motivations were self promotion, narcissism, a disdain for Hindus / Indians, and the need to depict Catholicism as the salvation for humanity, rather than a serious attempt to address the structural reasons for poverty in India.

It was all feeding the selfish need of the Catholic church in a time of increasing secularism and rejection of its dogma in its traditional heartlands of Europe. She was their poster girl, their superstar. That is why they are fast-tracking her canonisation and journey to sainthood. Got to get that sainthood up and running for the great dawah she provides.

Eventually, poverty alleviation through growing prosperity, investment in infrastructure, creating jobs, and providing education and health care will do more to end suffering in Calcutta than any amount of Roman Catholic dogma (or any religious dogma) ever will. In other words, the fruits of secularism and progressive ideas and a growing economy - not religion.
