Billy Tripitaka had me worried when I was 11. Tripitaka was pretty and I was pretty sure I was straight. I breathed a sigh of relief when I found out he was played by a pretty hot female actor lol!

Self–portraits I do have two things in common (three if you also count the fact that they’re unmitigated shite):

    1. They look nothing like me.
    2. They always make me look old(er than I am).

There's some seriously amazing stuff in this thread!! You guys really have some talent! A question to those who draw/paint often, do you use references often when you create stuff? Or can you just use your own imagination? Did you have to learn your skill or did it require refinement over many years?

I started learning to draw two weeks back. I have images in my head that I would love to draw but I cant concentrate on any of the little details of them. So right now I'm drawing purely from references:

    I wish I could draw.

That was my same attitude two weeks ago Spinoza. The best I'd drawn up until then were doodles resembling the abilities of a 5 year old. My mistake was thinking one can draw properly from memory without any thought to actual details and proportions. It makes a a huge difference when using an actual reference. It also helps to learn to use guide lines to help you proportion things properly.

You can learn to draw. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube giving some good tips. Wont know until you try and practice. It's a cheap hobby so don't be afraid to give it a go.

I wish I could draw as well as a 5 year old Grin

I think our views probably vary considerably over what constitutes not being able to draw.

Have you tried? I am genuinely interested in finding out if this is a learnable skill. My research says it is, would be great to meet someone who actually went from appalling to good.

Awesome work Peruvian and I agree with you. I am a firm believer that anything and everything can be learnt or improved on. Limitations exist only in our minds.

Years ago I was messing around with some new techniques and came up with this one. Mostly just do 3d stuff now, but I always loved doing the 2d stuff, miss it a bit.
