The last time I went to the zoo I was struck by the sheer majesty of the Jaguar! Absolutely beautiful animal. It was perched up on a ledge at the top of it's cage and staring at my 5 year old nephew ready to pounce on him!

It is now my favorite cat. I don't know enough about evolution to know why it looks so similar to a leapard even though it is located in South America whilst the leapard is located in Africa. Is that a case of parralel evolution or is it simply that they are very closely related animals and their ancestors simply died off in the areas between Africa and America? I am guessing the latter.
