Coca cola and Pepsi contains Alcohol?

Just read this in the papers and thought what do people think of it? Is it just something to worry about or is it just hype to worry people.

I mean i don't drink but comes across to me like if every food item has something that is haram then eventually what can you eat or drink. If you want to go hardcore theres some bodysprays and fragrances that have alcohol, what are people going to do not buy them at all?

Had a row with my mum saying she won't buy anymore of it cause of scientific research. I had to say scientific research has also concluded that there was no such thing as the virgin mary. She got horrified, and i just said you can't split hairs and accept scientific research just as long as it doesn't contradict your beliefs. If you want to play the scientific research card then you must accept it in other issues aswell .

Thoughts.

I don't think there is any alcohol in it any more, but as far as I know, there used to be... if you're really concerned, you can call up the customer/consumer hotline on the bottle. They will tell you.

When I was with my X, someone told him that TimTams have alcohol in them and therefore are haram, so my X got me to call up the hotline, and they said that yes there was a small percentage of alcohol in TimTams (think it was like 0.2% or something) but that it was cooked out during the cooking process (therefore no alcohol left in the TimTams by the end of the cooking process). Anyways, that was the end of me being able to eat TimTams, as he was like, Nope, it's haram, you can't eat them...

Many silly people don't know that Measurable amounts of ethanol is normally produced in the gastrointestinal tract of every one. and that is the reason we have alcohol dehdrogenase in our livers with some exceptions of few who lack that enzyme

lol such a trace amount of alcohol it's pretty much impossible to detect. Though I suppose some religious outfit's going to go nutz over something that would have never known about anyways.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

If there is sugar in something, it is more than likely to contain trace amounts of alcohol.
