This seems like a really good read, anyone from here have it?

He has a free online class he teaches from Harvard. It's pretty good. I think he basic premise is true; that there are limits to what the market can "capture". But I'd have to see how far along he goes. It's worth a read.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I don't know anything about the book. But the general premise that money can buy anything is certainly not true.

Religion is far more powerful than money. With money you can get someone to do just about anything but you cannot get them to harm themselves or their own family.

With religion you can, you can get someone to turn against their own family and even to blow themselves up.

If I was rich I would, I said I WOULD light cigars with fifty pound notes just because I could.

    Not every day though.

I listened to this set of 4 radio programmes about this topic back in 2009.

Sandel seemed like a smart philosopher. Afro

That reminds me... I still haven't listened to this year's Reith Lectures by Niall Ferguson.

Sandal is interesting, but ultimately very impractical.

There is no reason for the market to capture everything... it's not supposed to capture everything.  Money isn't everything and never should be.

But what money does capture... is how much people are willing to pay for any given service.

Would we all like healthcare!  Of course.
Now, who wants to pay the doctor, nurse, pharmacist...?
    How much should they earn?
If you don't pay them enough, they strike ?  Do you force them to work?

For things that don't require money, do what you want.  Paint, create music, build homes for the poor... whatever you fancy.
