    ^^^^^^^^^^

Because I thought not everyone was/is loopy about religion. Seriously there was this girl I was talking to and I had just come out of the shower and when I told her I couldn't talk because I was about to get dressed she'd asked for a picture! On her profile she said 'I really want to find out more about my deen'. Never called her back.

Most of the girls you come across say they want to learn more about their deen and increase thier imaan. Seriously, you go on a dating site to find someone so that you can learn more about Islam? Buy yourself a fucking library card!

There were too many pretentious Muslims out there.

Lol, one girl I was dating, and she was a doctor too, refused to talk about anything supernatural because 'I've got first hand experience of that sort of thing' and the look she gave me was scary. She also drank and partied, but when I told her about the issue of apostasy she said 'but what answer are you going to give to Allah when you die'!?

Another girl, well she couldn't stop talking about Islam. She thought she figured out the correct, true version of Islam and all she would talk about is 'did you know Islam really says this...?' and it went on for a couple of hours. I was just glad that she rang me rather than the other way around.

Then there was this other girl who said that she loved going on holidays and scuba diving and how she wanted to be a scuba diving instructor and loved going to Egypt to get lessons. She asked me if I prayed and I said no and she said she wanted a husband to pray with her as she prays 5 times a day and observes Islam because that will make me a better person.  I asked her 'how are you going to observe Islam by wearing tight scuba diving gear in front of ghair mahram?' She screamed at me and I told her to get her head checked out. Really, some of those girls are bat shit crazy delusional.

     Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

There are more stories I've got. It's a messed up culture like when girls, they agree to meet you in a public space, but then ask that you are not seen too close together when walking outside in case their parents catch you together or in case a family friend sees them. Then, when you're in a private setting, they chat you up. It seems to me that a combination of Islam and desi culture encourages and reinforces a lack of individuality, immaturity, denial of reality and hypocrisy. It is a self-delusional lifestyle I want no part of.

This is jut a couple of months ago too. I haven't been dating since. For a while, the old school Muslim in me thought that this was Allah's way off putting me back upon the sirat-ul mustaqeen (path of righteousness). I guess the bat shit craziness of some of the girls was rubbing off on me.

Seriously guys, it upset me because I thought, due to my apostasy I'd never find someone. There's too much you have to hide when you're dating or going out with someone. I'd think to myself, I've done this shit for 14+years now, why do we still have to act like kids when we're mature adults?

On a good note, I am going back into the dating scene.

Ok that behavior is completely understandable if the girls are in highschool or university/college but if they are in their mid to late twenties with their own full time job then it's just sad.

Why are you dating Muslim desi girls in the first place?  Huh?

If you date desi or arab girls that are not serious about religion they are more likely to be understanding of the family situation or any other situation you end up in as a result of apostasy.

That's why I know I'll never get married.  There is just waay too much apostasy related baggage that it would send people running in the other direction.

@ cornflower...I used to go out with muslim desi girls and there wasn't much of a problem at all. I don't think it's in me to actively discriminate agianst people just because they choose to label themselves one way or another. I don't mind if someone is muslim so long as they not bat shit crazy delusional.

There are some lovely muslim girls out there that aren't bat shit crazy. They label themselves as muslims but are...like the vast majority, just getting on with their lives and looking for love. I've only had two white girlfriends ever. I guess I'm more comfortable with desi because that's where I've been before, but that comfort zone has depleted, and white looks bright to me.

But why? You do realise that for many Muslims it is just a identity/cultural designation?

yeah but why make life difficult for yourself by dating muslims and then having to figure out if they are liberal or not.

It's just easier to date non religious people so you don't have to keep thinking " is she religious ?  what will she say if she finds out i'm an apostate?"

It depends which part of the culture they hang on to. If it's the weird family shit where you have to jump through hoops and you know that if the men don't approve it's not going to happen and there's no way she'd choose you like you'd choose her, the fuck is even the point? I could never completely trust someone like that. I also can't see myself in a long-term romantic relationship with an actual believing muslim. It flat out would not work.

As I've mentioned I've done it before and religion didn't come into it. Not everyone's the same. You get similar issues with other people as well.

Fuck no. Might knock her up and there is no fucking way I would allow my child to be poisoned with tales of hell and original sin and sadistic blood sacrifice.

I don't think I'd mind an agnostic or a deist. But no, I wouldn't want someone religious.

I almost started a relationship with a christian about 6 months back, i had to keep convincing myself every day that i believed in Jesus, didnt quite work..  It doesnt bother me that much what belief some guy has but i definately couldnt go back to a practising muslim man, such misery to be inflicted..  i'd rather be with a free thinker.

I was always in two minds at the time as to whether Jesus existed as a historical figure, but there was no evidence, beleiving in Jesus as God then i would have to go with blind faith Smiley  Jesus was very important to him so i tried to see it from his perspective so we could atleast have something in common, but nope... Couldnt lie to myself so it just fizzled away..  I cant deal with labelling people or myself, i get claustrophobic Smiley

If I ever date someone with a "Muslim background", I will have to make sure they are beyond doubt atheist and disbelievers in Islam. I know better than to make same mistakes twice, disguised in different wrapping paper. But that's just me Smiley

Aaaanndd, when I find out someone is "religious" or believes in god, I'm put off more than anything. I just can't stand it. It makes me beyond uncomfortable.

uuurggh... I would have a real problem with it. As long as he keeps that shit to himself completely, not mentioning it ever ever in my vicinity or in my child's (childrens'?) vicinity, I could accept it MAYBE. I don't know why, but this feeling of disgust overwhelms me every time I'm confronted with religion whichever it may be. Hopefully it'll pass away with time, it's probably just a reaction to my apostasy and the problems connected to it... At least I know it's intolerant of me to be so rigid about it, so that's why I'm pretty sure it'll pass eventually.

Lol i'm pretty sure you would change your mind if you met a guy like that.

I don't see how it could possibly be a problem.  I mean if you were to become a deist you would be living your life the exact same way as you are as an atheist.

All a deist means is they think there is a god and thats pretty much all it is. It doesn't impact their lives any way that a religion would.
