    If anyone was wondering when we'd get a dogmatic evangelical atheist religion, here it is.

    Like atheists, but better. Complete with their own label and symbol so you know who to avoid.

    It's not Humanism. Humanism welcomes all creeds, including the religious assuming they appreciate shared human values and equal rights. This Atheism+ is an exclusive clique of apparently superior atheists. It's Humanism-

    Because I didn't see anything offensive in the post and pretty well agree with it?

    I'd like to see more activism and awareness of atheism/non-religiousness. It's covered in negative connotations and stereotypes. I'd like for people to see and realize that atheists are people too, just like everyone else. This may not be a big deal in europe, but it's pretty significant here in the US.

    What I found silly was thinking that it really had much to do with "atheism" itself. They were humanist ideals, for the most part. Atheism doesn't deal with beliefs, it deals with one lack of or rejection of a single particular belief. But that's kind of missing the point of the post I think.

    To be fair, that blog post doesn't tell the whole story. It is relatively benign at face value (if you can get past the implicit air of superiority in the name and attitude). But Atheism+ is more of an official conception and mission statement of a fringe movement of petty drama-magnets, professional whiners, and day-tripper activists. It's a tree house club, and only approved super special snowflake atheists can enter after chanting The Pledge. It's been a while in the making. This is just its first 'official' incarnation.

    It's an exclusive club. "We are atheists plus..." You don't need to be an atheist to support any and all of the principles mentioned. That's the point of secular humanism: it's meant to unite humanity, regardless of religious beliefs or lack thereof.

    While I'm not going to adopt the label myself I'm happy they exist. If they want to push the atheist movement towards being more liberal I'm all for it. I'm a little confused as to the reaction here given the enormous amounts of racism that surrounds the discourse around Islam; having a subset of atheists that are more sensitive to that sort of thing is wonderful.

    So atheists who escaped the tyranny of religion would now love to be  told what is fair and what's not !

    'Conservative' Atheists : who sit around doing nothing ,other than the proactive thing of not praying [which btw includes deities of all kinds and listening to sermons]

    Liberal Atheists :whose definition of social justice is broad enough to include all forms of discrimination in its ambit.

    Attempting to shoehorn political ideologies into the concept of atheism isn't going to work, largely due to the sheer diversity of political views and size of atheists and atheism. Also I haven't really heard of any of the names associated with it, so it probably won't catch on anyway.  whistling2
