     OP - October 08, 2012, 12:29 AM

    Hi guys,

I'm doing a group project for one of my college classes and our topic is 'Islam / Muslim medical beliefs'. So, I was hoping that some of you who have grown up Muslim could enlighten me to matters such as how euthanasia is treated within the community, etc.

I'm studying to become a medical coder, FYI.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or sources you may have.

    Thanks

Are you looking for serious stuff only like opinions on euthanasia. or are silly hadiths about drinking camil urine also fair game ?

In my opinion a life without curiosity is not a life worth living

Much as I get a kick out of the silly Hadith I am only looking for serious stuff for this project.

I'm not sure what you're looking for but in all past discussions with Imams etc on this subject this view was universally espoused

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/islam/islamethics/euthanasia.shtml

    Cliffs:

    -Euthanasia is always haram
-Not accepting medication/resuscitation when one has a terminal illness is generally thought to be acceptable.

The link has most of the relevant quran/hadith verses, but obviously since the book is 1400 years old, this issue is barely discussed in specifics.

This hadith seems to talk to euthanasia:

The Prophet said: "Amongst the nations before you there was a man who got a wound, and growing impatient (with its pain), he took a knife and cut his hand with it and the blood did not stop till he died. Allah said, 'My Slave hurried to bring death upon himself so I have forbidden him (to enter) Paradise.' "

    Sahih Bukhari 4.56.669

    Read the link though, useful.
