  • Don't you feel sorry for little children?
     OP - October 10, 2012, 03:10 PM

In one of these internet battles revolving around wars in ex-Yugoslavia, I was accused of ''having blood of innocent children on my hands''.

Which can't possibly be true, because in early 90-es I  was a child myself.

It's really irritating when people throw ''innocent children are killed'' argument  in discussions instead of using politicial, geographical,  judicial or historical facts.I find this ''killed innocent children'' fallacy to be a kind of emotional blackmail that is supposed to suppress any further discussion. How is one supposed to debunk that argument without looking like a complete monster that condones hurting the most vulnerable members of our society-kids?

What were you doing, defending Srebrenica? I don't see why someone would say something like that unless they felt you were defending a massacre.

Ah ok, first off, I didn't know you were Croatian, now I understand why you have a strong Balkan focus.

Second, I wanted to know the context in which 'why don't you care about the children' was said. There has to be some context to the conversation.

Well there wasn't much context...i just mentioned Serbian war crimes, and the guy started barking like mad dog.

Oh, ok, in that case you have a legitimate grievance, but I would say sometimes 'don't you care about the children' is a fair question.

    For example:

A: ''Drone strikes are an acceptable tactic, they go after terrorists and those who harbor terrorists'

B: ''But most of the time the drone strike would destroy a house and property, as well as kill families in the area''

A: ''Well, they deserve it for helping terrorists''

B: ''You're assuming that American intel is always 100% accurate, but anyway, what if there are old people, women, and children in the house who have nothing to do with the fight, don't you care about the children?''

In this context, whether you agree with the opinion or not, it is a legitimate question.

"Won't somebody think of the children?"  - the cue for many a torch and pitchfork brigade.  Look at the way that suspect in the April Jones murder was surrounded by an angry mob screaming and throwing things at him as he was being led into court.  Not a single one of those people has seen a shred of evidence yet, but that doesn't stop them wanting blood.

Its a bit like the way the KKK use "white women" as an excuse for their atrocities, even though most white women wish they'd just piss off with their stupid robes and crosses.

"Befriend them not, Oh murtads, and give them neither parrot nor bunny."  - happymurtad's advice on trolls.

I'm turkish, I've met Armenians and Arabs who've made it a point to state how turks killed a lot of their people before I was born. I'm always like "I didn't do it, I promise! Nice to meet you too!"
