    This is taken as knowledge of internal waves in the sea. But perhaps the waves on top of waves are the waves in the sky

    Could also be intersecting surface wave trains, which are very common in coastal areas. In fact it's rare to get only one wave train anywhere in the ocean. Anyone could see that sort of thing just by going to the beach (or even a sizable lake).

    "Waves topped by waves" is a pretty good description of a swell with a chop on top of it. There's no real reason to assume it refers to internal waves beneath the surface.

    but that verse proves the Koran is wrong because there actually is light in many depths of seas
