  • Is human evolution still occurring?
     OP - December 01, 2012, 09:30 AM

    “Sometimes people ask the question, ‘Is human evolution still occurring?’” said Tishkoff. “Yes, human evolution can still occur, and it is.”

    I'd be very suprised if human evolution had stopped. To do that you'd have to stop genetic variation, and that's not likely to happen.

    Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

    We just completely changed natural selection through medicine and technology, but since selection and mutation are always occurring evolution has not stopped.

    Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

    At least, I hope we're still evolving. I always think of the human mammal as a species that has a lot of "evolving" to do. We are a underdeveloped species. We are very often unimaginably stupid, immoral, selfish, wasteful and in many other ways, lacking species.

    We've come far. In the medical field of surgery, for instance, we have now developed robots (The Da Vinci) capable of doing tasks with a surgical (pun intended) precision, yet we cannot allocate our planet's resources more efficiently. So we are investing so much intelligence, time and money on various fields of technology and science, while 3 billion human beings are living in absolute poverty, starving and have barely something to drink. Heavy, heavy irony.

    Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.

    Yap...  there were hardly 10million human beings 10,000 years back... at the end of this century,  there will be 10 billion people on the earth...  indeed they devoured every other species and destroyed much of its diverse biology....  For its own survival it is must that this species migrates in to space and to other planets...

    @Yezeevee

    And fact being, this planet is actually sufficient for its inhabitants, in terms of what it has to offer, in resources and goods. But given the incredibly selfish and narrowminded idiots that is our species, we've actually managed to misallocate so badly and some of us are overconsuming so immensily, not only do we have billions of people left in starvation, but we are also making this planet inhabitable in the longer term.

    I don't think we could mishandle our planet any worse, without absolutely demolishing it and anything/anyone on it. I might appear quite catastrophic and I am not. We've achieved quite a lot. But just to put things in perspective. We've fucked up a lot too. And we might not be (indeed we are not) this superior, intelligent super-species that we like to think we are. We are in many ways underdeveloped.

    Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it.
