    Mother-of-two Jacintha Saldanha, who was working on the switchboard at the King Edward VII Hospital when 2DayFM obtained intimate details about Kate, was found dead this morning. As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spoke of their 'deep sadness' at the tragedy, the grieving family of the 'excellent' nurse said:  'We as a family are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Jacintha.'..


    That is the most horrible news..  I am so sorry for the kids.. why?  . No one talked to  her? That was not her fault?  Damn   why?....

    Why on earth would she commit suicide over the prank call? There was no real malice involved, and frankly it was funny. The royal family didn't freak about it. They seemed to take it in their stride. I mean sure, it would have been a bit embarrassing for her but it really wasn't that big a deal.

    Calling for the DJ's to be punished is just ridiculous. They would have had no reason to think that anyone would kill themselves over something like this.

    It's sad that she did kill herself, but it sounds very much as if she already had serious issues.

    They couldn't have foreseen that she would take her own life, but they could have foreseen that whichever employee fell for their prank could get fired for it.  A prank which could lose someone else their job is not funny.

    Its common sense that if you prank some hospital employee into giving out info about a royal patient they might very well get fired over it.  You don't need to be Mystic Meg to foresee that as a potential consequence of your actions, the fact that it didn't happen here is not the point.

    Well actually it is the point, since the furore has only happened since she killed herself. Before then everyone was fine with it. If she hadn't killed herself, everyone would still be thinking it was funny.

    I wouldn't.  I don't approve of pranks which could result in someone losing their job.  Not to mention that nursing can be a stressful enough job at the best of times, they should have chosen a better target for their prank.

     Well., Clearly she had no one to talk on her problems or on that incident and its effect on her job....   Apparently she is an Indian lady moved to UK and working over there for the past 4 years. These guys specially women  from subcontinent are very emotional, They take extreme steps for simple problems.. .. That is very unfortunate  demise .. she didn't even think about her two children..

    Sad ..very sad .. that too  she being a nurse who is supposed to take care of people emotional  issues..

    Nurse who died after royal baby prank call was found hanged  says news

    The nurse found dead after a hoax call to the hospital treating the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge was found hanged, the Guardian understands. Jacintha Saldanha, 46, a mother of two from Bristol, was discovered unconscious at her nurses' flat near the private King Edward VII hospital in central London on Friday morning. A postmortem has been carried out, with the results expected to be officially announced at the opening of the inquest into her death on Thursday morning at Westminster coroners court.

    The Guardian confirmed a report on Sky News that she had been found hanged. Scotland Yard would not comment on the reports. Saldanha was the nurse who answered a hoax call to the hospital from two Australian radio DJs in the early hours of Tuesday last week, just hours after the Duchess of Cambridge was admitted for acute morning sickness. The nurse, who had worked at the hospital for more than four years, was discovered at around 9.30am on Friday morning. Reports that she left a suicide note have not been confirmed.

    The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned on Thursday as inquiries continue.

    well that is the news.. Apparently she was alive when some one found her hanging...I am sure Scotland Yard will be  looking in to that note she wrote carefully..

    Cruel prank? Arguably, do they quite deserve to lose their jobs? I wouldn't say so, but I can understand that action must be seen to be taken after something like this, it's just a massive tragedy really. Unfortunately you take your victim as you find them is traditionally the rule

    Anyway, RIP, I feel for her family.

    It's terrible for her family and friends, obviously, but I do think the reaction from some quarters has been over the top. Everyone is wise in hindsight, but let's say a year or so back you (or anyone else) had been planning a similar prank call. If I had suggested that you shouldn't do it because it might result in someone's death, that would have been seen as an utterly ridiculous assertion.

    This is a freak case, and nobody would have seen it coming. Directing a witch hunt at the callers over this is just daft. If anything should be closely examined, it is the hospital's internal policies and how they dealt with this particular employee.

    All true, but a prank call to a hospital is still a bad idea.  Its like prank calling a fire station, the person on the other end of the phone almost certainly has more important things to be doing than dealing with pranks.

    If you're prank calling intensive care, yes. General switchboard, not so much. They deal with plenty of non-critical stuff all the time.

    well I have to agree with Cheetah..

    Certain public places like hospitals, fire stations, Police stations(those two are already off limit) should be  off limits to these Pranks.. Otherwise because of  inexpensive cell phones every fool who has free time on his hands  and has cell phone will start doing prank calls to these places just to  record  and throw it  on internet..  it will become worse if DJs and other celebrities become examples for  such pranks whom teenagers will start emulating.  Pranks are fun and  may be OK if done properly  but not to hospitals.

DCI Harman added that Scotland Yard expected be in contact with police in New South Wales in the very near future to interview witnesses to “put the best evidence before” the coroner about the circumstances of the death.

    He said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Ms Saldanha’s death.

    The coroner opened and adjourned the inquest this morning, giving a provisional date of March 26 2013 for it to continue.

    Now I'm not the type of guy that believes in conspiracy theories like 9/11 was inside job and all that nonsense but I find this very suspicious...

    The royal family might have gotten really pissed and had her murdered. It's alot more likely than her committing suicide. And even though in theory they might not be above the law but in practice that's not really the case.

    Up till now no information on HOW she committed suicide. News reports just say she was found dead. Usually when you hear of suicides on the news you hear how they killed them or the reason they killed themselves.  NO mentally stable person kills themselves over a careless mistake they made on the job.  And plus a person like a nurse is usually better able to handle a stressful situation because thats part of the job description as a health care worker.

    Commiting suicide isn't something that a person can just decide in a short period of time.  They have to be in a state of depression or some stressful mental state in order to consider it.

    I mean some people are really depressed and try to commit suicide but sometimes even they can't bring themselves to do it. The family or staff did not indicate that she was depressed or was displaying any such behavior.  Neither the nurse's family or her co workers stated that she was going through any sort of depression.

    Plus I didn't see anyone from the Royal Family personally give condolences. But then again it's not like you can expect decency from a family like that anyways.

    Oh come off it.  Its been widely reported that she hanged herself, and Prince William and wotsername released a statement straight away expressing condolences, sadness etc. 

    Conspiracy theories are always nutty, but to think the Royal family would have murdered this nurse, while conspicuously not murdering the nurse who actually gave out information and the two DJs responsible for the whole thing, is nuttier than usual.
