     OP - December 19, 2012, 04:31 PM

    hello
My first post here, though I had visited this site from time to time. I'm an ex-Muslim Atheist since my late teens (20 plus years ago). Since my departure from Islam, I always did my best to maintain my respect towards Islam and all religion along with its followers. I believed in the principle "you don't bother me and I won't bother you." Even when I heard Muslims made idiotic arguments in support of Islam, most of the time I tolerated it. In fact the only debate I was ever involved with a Muslim was a Kuwaiti friend who made rude comments about why I let my ex-girlfriend drove. Even then I categorized (incorrectly or not) his remarks as more cultural rather than divinely inspired opinion.

That all changed when, a near a decade ago, I moved to a country where my family lived. A country which had, evidently, the Largest Muslim Population in the World. Kind of like ground zero for me.

Anyway not wanting to be a bore, I would like to share one post on Facebook in the past by a seemingly nice innocent Muslim girl about her intentions concerning Atheists which I kept as a sentimental souvenir.

The above roughly translates to (original version was written in all caps):
    "LISTEN WELL ATHEISTS
    I WILL KILL :
    1) ATHEIST ,
    2) YOUR MOM
    3) YOUR DAD
    4) YOUR FRIENDS
    5) YOUR SIBLING (older)
    6) YOUR UNCLE/GRANDFATHER
    7) AND GIVE YOUR DICK TO THE DOGS TO EAT

THAT'S ALL SO REMEMBER IT WELL"

Unfortunately this site won't let me put up a link to show you the original post, but when I looked at the young girl's profile photo I couldn't hardly believe the vile she wrote. Yeah, I know, don't judge the book by the cover but still, the above post is nothing short of a massacre. If a religion, any kind of religion, could turn you into such sadistic savages with mass murder inclination, why have faith in it? That's pure insanity.

If you were wondering, she's from the country where a young man named Alex Aan was jailed for posting his disbelieve in god on Facebook. She was one of the many who voiced their anger towards Alex and his supporters.

Anyhow, that's all. Apologies for the long post.

Any ways I am glad you joined the forum.. So how many months/years are you reading the forum??

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
the beloved betrayed me and turned in to  a Muslim

    oh hi
    A pleasure to know you.
I didn't realize I posted the first post at the wrong thread. Apologies.

I was introduced to this site early last year while googling. Can't exactly remember what I googled for. But it's wonderful that there exist a support group for apostates.

I looked at religion as a sort of hypothesis which begs a certain question. So in itself religion is somewhat harmless. It's the people that do horrible (and sometimes even good) things with it. Pretty much like, say, HP Lovecraft's literature. I surmise any person with the right set of mind can exact unspeakable terror to innocents by using Lovecraft as a divine guide. In fact I would be surprise if no-one hasn't.

Any sci-fi and fantasy authors can easily invent religion and probably have done so as a premise to serve a plot in their fiction.

That's how I see Islam, as a religion based on fiction. Hence at times, I'm more keen on placing the responsibility to a Muslim person rather than blaming the religion as a whole. The human made the conscious decision to believe a flying donkey exist.

No problem, kamikazeoda. You should be able to post links after a few initial posts (we have that restriction on new accounts to weed out spammers).

The incident with that "innocent" muslim girl posting that horrific stuff is.... well... horrific, to say the least Roll Eyes

Anyway, glad you found this safe space. far away hug

    @Al-Alethia, Thanks for the welcome.

@allat, Completely agree on the no-spammer rule.

I suppose at some point I'll selfishly indulge myself in composing an eloquent essay detailing why I left Islam as a proper entry for this introduction thread.

OT: one question, Mo's dad, Abdullah means servent of Allah, yes? Is there other rendition in which a name may mean a servant of something else ever existed in Arabic society? Say a servant of Jones (would that be translated as AbdJones)?

It's not selfish at all, in fact, sharing our stories helps countless others, including other members and especially lurkers and guests who are still struggling with doubts but are afraid to question things too much lest they lose the false sense of comfort that religion provides.

So, please do share your story sometime. I'm looking forward to reading it.

    Hi kamikazeoda, welcome!

I heard of the Alex Aan case and when I checked his wikipedia page, it says
    Quote
Alexander Aan (born c. 1982[1]) is an Indonesian ex-atheist and Muslim of Minang descent.

So he is Muslim again? :O

He converted back to Islam amidst the threats to his life if he refused. Amongst them who threatened Alex were the local police.

OMG that really sucks. Then he is not really Muslim. Can't they see that? No compulsion in religion my arse :(

Remember how Michele Lesley "converted to Islam" when she was charged with drugs and sentenced to 15 years? Her sentence was reduced to 3 months.
    Indonesia is a funny country.

It's a quantity versus quality thing. Could make impressive PowerPoint pie charts. Indonesian muslims complain more about the decreasing percentage of muslims in the population than the increasing percentage of unemployment. I'd hear these complaints in the mosques through their damn megaphones every Friday.

    We're the delusional ones.

    Eg:
A thousand plus years ago, guy went in a cave, got out, claimed he's a prophet sent by God.

Over a billion people today believe it's true.

If today I go in a cave, get out, claim to be a prophet sent by God, that same billion of people will say I'm insane. Worse, i get beheaded.

    It's true!

Actually it's quite horryfying because that's exactly what happened with the Ahmadiyya. There are villages burned and Ahmadis murdered in Indonesia for that reason. Both fundies and majority sunnies despised and discriminated the Ahmadis quite publicly here. Muslims in the west whined about Islamophobia and compared themselves with the Jews during Nazi era, and yet right in their own backyard they systematically brutalized a community who espoused similar beliefs but have a plus one prophet.

     Reply #24 - December 21, 2012, 07:09 PM

Yes, and they don't just do it in Indonesia. It happens in pretty much any Islamic-majority country that has an Ahmadi community. I never hear of Muslims in the west protesting about the treatment of Ahmadis in Islamic countries.

    Oh and welcome. Smiley
