    I say let them trivialize it. If passing calculus or breastfeeding your infant fulfils your requirement to do “Jihad,” then I say have at it. Whatever will keep our airports, subway stations, and sky scrapers safe is fine with me. Incidentally, Mein Kampf also means “My Struggle.”

    My jihad... jihad means struggle, yep that's 1 definition of it, for sure. You know what "Mein Kampf" means? "My struggle". Not saying there's a connection but sometimes some words and phrases can't be so easily "reclaimed".

    The problem of Islamophobia is not just about something as simplistic as "Islam gets a bad image in the media". It's superficial to only look at Islam's "image" as though it's some brand that just needs to be rebranded with a new PR campaign. The problem many people have with Islam is within Islam's texts and traditions. As long as Muslims are just spending all their energy on whitewashing Islam's "image" they are ignoring the very serious problems (sharia, gender roles, over reliance on clergy, restrictions on free thought etc.) contained within Islamic texts, traditions and communities.

    Its almost as though their reaction to anti-Muslim bigotry is to defend one of the most problematic parts of Islam without actually addressing the problem. Which is, problematic.

    Ishina, which chosen people are you talking about ?
    I know than in practice, Islam is very much an Arab religion deeply rooted in Arab tradition and culture, but still, there is no chosen people stuff in Islam, is there ?

     This. I think it's a pretty transparent attempt to grab the word from extremists and when it's transparent it lacks credibility, but I also can't stand Pamela Geller's hijacking of it to boaster her stupidity.
    So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    I have to take issue with the semantics of that bus sign.  If they were trying to speak "the language", they would have written "kaffirs" instead of "kuffars".  Anyone else catch that?  They need to hire an ex-Muslim to their advertising department.  duh.

    But yes, it is creative....and Pamela Gellar is still obnoxious.  True and True.

    The original advertisement on that bus was done by Muslims (from the "taking back the word jihad" campaign) and it once said something all nice, flowery and pc about their idea of "Jihad".  But what the picture shows NOW....uh, someone basically took it upon themselves to change the message and plaster over the original one.

    I really don't trust CAIR and this campaign is coming from them.

    Historically, jihad has also included warfare against unbelievers (9:29), how can they reform jihad if they won't acknowledge this violent supremacist side of it even exists?

    Is he forgetting that the quran says that non-muslims are criminal, unjust, liars, pervert, etc. and therefore we, as non-muslims (and especially all of you as ex-muslims) are considered as non innocent (criminal) by Allah himself? So technically we are not "innocent" in an islamic point of view... IMO.
    If the abrahamic god judged himself according to his own moral standards, he'd go to hell.

    He's jealous, full of pride, he created evil, he doesn't heal sick people while he could, he's attacking people who are weaker than him, he follows his own desires and he commits murders all the time.

    To muslims who are seeking to improve their image I always tell them to do the following:

      -  Speak out against homophobia and support liberal gay muslims who are being persecuted

      -   Speak for the rights of apostates and all religious minorities who are violently persecuted for their beliefs in Islamic countries


    They can't expect people to actually take their "moderate" image seriously if they refuse to do the two things mentioned above.

    It seems to me like even more importantly for true moderate Muslims is that they renounce definitively the idea of warfare against unbelievers, the concept of the dhimma in favor of equality of all citizens before the law and in general any attempt (even by peaceful means) to undermine the separation of church and state in the country they are in or to try to get Sharia law passed in whole or in part.

    Really, if they keep their religion a personal matter and not a political matter, I find it really hard to believe you still see the same level of "Islamophobia".

    It would also help to stop associating with CAIR, ICNA, IFE and all these suspicious propaganda NGOs.

    Oh, and in particular (for YouTuber DawahFilms) it would help if you didn't link to Tafsir Ibn Kathir on your blog. Seriously, you wanna claim to be moderate when you link to a scholar that approves of warfare against unbelievers simply for being unbelievers? But then again DawahFilms is not really moderate. He's been pretty open about restoring the Caliphate and the need to apostates to be executed.

    EDIT: Oh, and it also helps to cease this undying support for the Palestinian Authority just because they are Muslim and Israelis are Jews. Their claims to be fighting injustice has no credibility given that both Hamas and Fatah are religious zealots and Muslim citizens of Israel actually have more rights and individual liberty than in other countries in the Middle East.

    I think the first sign of a genuine moderate is one who isn't hostile to Israel's existence. (And who doesn't hesitate to call out Hamas for their brutality.)

    If they don't think that in the first place, what do they have to denounce? :/ If you said that to my mum (for example) she'll just look at you all confused. And she's not even moderate, she's religious, but she doesn't know/care about war or politics.

    You know I think with is a problem with all religions. People are raised into religions, they rarely choose it, so often they'll miss the fine print.

    For example YouTuber ZOMGitsCriss was Christian until she read the Bible and found that the God of the Bible was anything but "all-loving" as she was lead to believe, so she stopped being Christian. (then again it depends on the individual, Fred Phelps for example didn't leave Christianity, he just embraced its crazy God and now spends all his time preaching fire and brimstone.)

    I dunno how to solve this, maybe if people were raised irreligious (not atheist, just irreligious) and encouraged to know what they're signing up for, we'd see less problems like these, but that's not gonna happen any time soon.
