     OP - February 13, 2013, 02:44 AM

Just heard some awesome news from a Muslim friend of mine.  Our local masjid has REFUSED to acknowledge "Islamic divorces" (i.e. those I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you, during the middle of an argument, "wham bam thank you Ma'am", drive thru, "do you want fries with that" style divorces!)

Thank GOD for some level of progress in the community!  So, apparently, they are making the couple get their LEGAL divorces first, then once they have the divorce finalized...only THEN they will rubber stamp their "Islamic" ones.....which will allow for the men to get remarried in the community.  Hmm, have to ask her how this works with couples who are not legally married, but whatever....

    ABOUT TIME!

And just when I thought I didn't have any respect for the Imams in this town.....

OMG, still talking to her on IM and she is saying that several men have actually filed lawsuits with the masjid over this.

LOL!  Good luck with that, boys!

You should be able to go in for free. I still don't understand on what grounds the lawsuit is based. What laws (besides the one's that don't count, i.e. islamic) were broken?

I can't even begin to tell you how many talaq horror stories I have heard of.  It must be one of the most vicious ways that a man can divorce his wife that I have ever heard

It wouldn't be as bad if both parties could do it, then it would just be farcical.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I was never a Muslim, can someone fill me in on what's going on here (or provide a link)?

Do Muslims have a different kind of marriage?

Personally I thank my lucky stars everyday that I was divorced this way.

No hassle of getting a legal divorce, just one argument in which he was stupid enough to set me free with 9 words.  Grin

Even though he tried afterwards to insist we were still married I got a letter from an imam telling me I wasn't.

Best experience out of my entire marriage that was.

Obviously I get why its bad for others, but for myself, I was free immediately.  Married to divorced in 60 seconds, my hollywood moment.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Must not start your immersion into the wonderful world of Al-Islam with boring subjects like talaaq. Read about takfir instead:

^ Talaq (divorce) is basically when a man tells his wife "I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you" and bam she's divorced, and has 3 months to get her arse out. No explanation or grounds or paperwork needed. Some Islamic authorities have said "text message" talaqs are valid, as are drunken talaqs and I once read a case about a talaq uttered in sleep being upheld as valid, and the couple being forced to split.

If a woman wants a divorce, it's not even called a divorce, and it's a whole fucking process I can't be bothered typing out…

I know this topic is not funny at all (its one of the stuff that pissed me off when I was a Muslim). But what the hell.  Cheesy

Someone should ask an imam this question.

If a man says " Talaq (I divorce you) talaq, Talaq"  while having sex with his wife has he committed fornication if the penis is still inside the wife after he has uttered the three divorce words.

^ Cheesy There's a three month waiting period (iddah) during which the husband can take the wife back, and I think resuming sexual relations anytime during this period nullifies the divorce. So, if he talaqed her while he was inside her, it'd have been nullified right away.

Are you ex-shia or ex sunni ?

From the sunni perspective the husband can take back the wife during the waiting period only if he said " talaq" once or if he said "talaq" twice but if he says it the third time he has no chance to take her back.

And if he has sex with her during the iddah period without formally taking her back then it is fornication.

However since he says it three times it means he can't take her back and if he is still inside her after saying the three divorce word is he committing fornication if his penis is still inside ?
