The terrorist outfit controlling Gaza has announced that it will seek to teach Hebrew to students in a new attempt to help young Palestinians to "know their enemy" in Israel.

Hamas has already flexed it linguistical skills, airing threatening videos and radio messages to Israelis in Hebrew during the war in November 2012. Hamas's Hebrew broadcasts underlined a desire to use Hebrew as a propaganda tool in the conflict, which it claims is important for Gazans to utilise to help them gain a foothold over the Jewish state.

Hamas's Twitter account has also begun reported in Hebrew, reports the Reuters news agency. Soumaya al-Nakhala, a senior Hamas education ministry official, told Reuters that knowing one's enemy is consistent with the teaching:

"Expanding (Hebrew) teaching comes as a result of our plan and meeting greater demand by students to learn Hebrew. They want to learn the language of their enemy so they can avoid their tricks and evil."

Two decades years ago, many Gazans could already speak and understand Hebrew, having worked in the Jewish state or spent time there in prison there for involvement in terrorist attacks.

But since 1994, Gaza has become increasingly isolated from Israel, having gained limited self-rule and being effectively shut off from the outside world by Hamas, the terrorist outfit which effectively rules by dictatorship in the area.

Today it is estimated that only about 50,000 Gazans retain a grasp of Hebrew, though this is set to change when Hebrew classes are extended to higher school grades, beginning next term

Sorry Israel vs Palestine is one of my favorite discussions and world issues.   I know Palestine vs Israel comes up from time to time, but I'm not talking about who's the big bad here. I'm just fascinated to see if the relation between the two is getting better or worst and social issue between the two.

I'm simply wanting an opinion/ discussion on how  despite  a deep hatred of Israel, there is still a reliability on them.  Israel controls the water and electricity, and many of the goods in Gaza are from Israel (from what I understand). Which I think is odd despite the blockade, I thought Israeli products would not be shared with Gaza, yet elsewhere in the Muslims world boycott these Israeli goods to support Palestine.... but most of Palestinians survive off of Israeli goods because other goods cannot get through. There is some messed up irony there.  idiot2

    Anyways,
Hamas wants to teach their children Hebrew, because they want to learnt the language of their enemy so Israel can't trick them. Is this somehow going to back fire? Is it pointless, because as mentions most of these children will probably never even meet an Israeli in their life for it to be useful.

I personally think it's going to backfire ^_^; what do you think about that if children in Gaza learn Hebrew.

i imagine that Israelis would welcome the plan.
They should understand their enemy. They should also understand their friends.

Interesting. Training future spies to infiltrate Israel or something?

Im the opposite of you. I absolutely dislike the discussion since I get very passionate and emotional about it

It could backfire. The kids might start talking to Israeli kids, and then where would they be? If they start fraternising, it might bugger the whole war effort.

Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

I think it could backfire because the Gazan kids may end up finding out that what they were told about Israelis is not true.
They are doing it to understand their enemy. Instead they may end up better understanding exactly who the enemy is
