    David Cameron has promised to stand up against the "aggressive secularisation" of British society.

    Mr Cameron said it had been “a great week for Christians" on the eve of the enthronement of the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

    He is today attending the event at Canterbury Cathedral, despite sending two Cabinet ministers to the Pope's inauguration this week.

    The Prime Minister has this year been criticised by the Church of England over plans to introduce gay marriage. The new laws were eventually accepted after the Coalition promised several safeguards to ensure the Church will not have to conduct same-sex ceremonies.

    The new Archbishop of Canterbury has also joined other bishops expressing concerns about the level of cuts to welfare spending.

    At the reception, Mr Cameron revealed he had been to church the previous Sunday. He also joked about the new Archbishop of Canterbury saying he was once told he would be a terrible candidate to be a minister.

    Yeah, the "message" of supremacism and ascendancy of a chosen people, that all members of this pluralistic society shall worship the Jewish god of war and no other god, that all shall call his son Lord, that blood sacrifices are the height of moral goodness and the most profound act of love, that gays are an abomination that need to be put to death, that men shall have full authority over women whom shall remain silent and invisible, that healthy sexual identity and expression shall be suppressed and shamed along with our very bodies, that all newborns are flawed and unclean creatures until they accept the divinity of Christ and repent for the sins of their ancestors, that the Sistine chapel ceiling or Da Vinci's Last Supper are amongst the ten most terrible transgressions a human can ever make, that we should take no thought for the morrow, that there is no value or consequence to our lives on earth, that all of this universe is just an inconvenience before reaching the Kingdom of God, and that if these terms are not met, then a soul shall face an eternity of unimaginable torture, a whole new level of fucked, infinite suffering for an infinite amount of time. Yeah, awesome message bro. Let's definitely make those the values of the nation.

    How very odd. Bibles in public schools? I think it's pure religious populism on his part; he doesn't come across as particularly religious or maybe he's just not into "aggressive secularism" and has some kind of emotional attachment to the CoE given its role in England's history, and it being a part of his heritage or whatever. Idk. 

    Politicians are arseholes for sure. Our PM is an unmarried atheist who opposes gay marriage (despite the majority of the population being fine with it) and she once said something about our values coming from the Bible. FFS, how wack is that? Just goes to show that pollies always tow (what they perceive to be) the populist line regardless of what they personally believe in

    Do you think Labour would be any better? I really have my doubts. They are especially soft when it comes to religious identity politics especially Islamic identity politics.

    Secularists have to be ready to take on all political parties whilst working with the secular elements within them.

    It boggles my mind why parties on the left seem to get friendly with the islamists by coming to the opening of new mosques and such.


    Can they not see that mosques are the very places that indoctrinate homophobia and other hateful views into children.

    The same hateful views these "left leaning" parties claim to be speaking against.


    I for one want to see that all political party representatives completely stop going to mosques and eid events to speak until the islamic organizations publicly take a stance against homophobia.

    It's so fuckin frustrating!

    Because of multiculturalism and interfaith shit. They visit other religious institutions too. As a general rule, the left wants to include *everyone*, which is great in theory but gets a bit hairy when you've got things like gays and mosques under the same banner.

    Wanting to include sunni mosques as part of being multi cultural and whatnot is not that different from going and endorsing white power groups.

    They both preach hate and view themselves as superior than others.

    I they want to be multi cultural with minorities and such they would be better of going to pakistani, indian, arab cultural events.

    Well there are still some pakistanis,indians and arabs who do value their culture more than their religion and it is important that we make sure they feel welcome in the country.

    As for the ones you mentioned who are hardcore muslims that only care about Islam instead of culture they should be ignored not endorsed they have nothing to contribute to secular society and in fact are a poison to it.

    Britain's multicultural society isn't just about Muslims. There are other religions and ethnicities.

    To be honest whenever I hear the phrase 'celebrating multiculturalism' I cringe, it seems so condescending.

    ^ I'm not sure about multiculturalism. It does make me cringe a little when I think about it in relation to Western Europe but I don't think it's too bad here…yet.

    We should promote multiracial, multiethnic, pluralistic societies but why does religion have to fuck everything up? If Islam were removed from the equation, would multiculturalism still be a bad idea? Like if politicians visited Arabic cultural festivals instead of mosques for instance?

    Multiculturalism is fine where food,clothes,language,history,art etc are concerned but many cultures from third world countries particularly islamic countries tend to have an ugly side to them such as forced marriage, religous fundamentalism and condoning that type of behavior under the guise of "multiculturalism" becomes a problem that has to be resolved.

    We don't need to promote them. The state and state agencies should stay away from identity politics which are the natural outcome of promoting multiculturalism. And which opportunistic religious identity politics exploit.

    All the good things of a cosmopolitan society flourish. It didn't need the state to promote Indian food amongst white people - it just naturally became the national cuisine of Britain. It doesn't need the state for Jamaican music culture to become the youth culture of Britain it just happened naturally.

    Just let stuff happen by itself, don't fetishise what can't be controlled, ie: the natural mingling of ideas, cultures spontaneously and naturally.
