I wonder what Usama Hasan's views are. His parents do loom large in this documentary, after all.

(What man or woman, not insane, would give this glorified village mullah and his wife any authority over anyone? Not that any of the other Sharia councils sound any better.)

I just finished watching it myself and although I'm happy when I see regular TV tackle Islamic issues it still pisses me off when they don't give you thd whole picture.

Like for example the moment they explain Islamic custody and say a girl goes to her father as young as 9. Umm not the total truth, she can be taken the moment she is weaned even before if a wet nurse is used if the mother remarries. The step father is a sexual danger to her so for her own protection she goes to her dad. I know a woman who remains within her abusive marriage because she doesn't want to hand over custody of her daughters.

Why not give that part of the story too?
Other than that it was quite frustrating to watch, to see them clinging to this need for an Islamic divorce through the sharia courts even convert women.

Only had an islamic marriage and I can assure you that even if he hadn't said I divorce you 3 times I still would have considered our unrecognised marriage as over the moment I left him.

The stuff being said to them ie the questions over whether the woman might me to blame reminds me of the imam who would never back me up in telling my ex to stop beating me. Its despicable this can be allowed to happen in a country that has hard won laws to protect its female citizens.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Time constraints I guess. We need the full picture to come out. One documentary is not enough.

OMFG, the amount of wrong in their response is mind-fucking-numbing.

    Pathetic.

Honestly, they haven't even tackled what was happening to the women in that video.  They actually didn't even care.  They did even try to say that that specific shariah court was doing wrong, they just go on and on about western women, and western life, and how rape etc happens in the west.

Absolutely nothing.  Just really fucking stupid.

If they thought they were making themselves sound like smart women in bags, they seriously got it wrong.   mysmilie_977

okay srsly...that niqabi on the left must have her niqab glued to her face...the way it wraps around her lower eyelid so perfectly.  anyone else notice that.  i always get stuck on silly details, sorry.

it should be a crime to have that much black polyester in one room.  hot damn!  pun intended.

as far of there words go....seriously had to tune it out.  all the same scripts.  turning off your brains to "reason" and common sense and "submitting to Islam".  Yup, lost me right there.  and then they sprinkle that with "the media twists this and twists that and casts us in an unfair light"  BLAH BLAH BLAH.  the evil media monster from their nightmarish fairy tales.  I feel sorry for their kids, sitting around and absorbing this bs all day long.

yup, and 12:05 and their overview of the "beating guidelines" didn't get me wantin' to re-convert.  hell to the no

any man who pulls a switch out to beat me will be a man who won't be breathing for much longer.

If the British government were to close Shariah courts (which I think they should do!), British Muslims will carp and wail about how unfair it is that they can't have their courts whilst the Jews have their special courts.

    This

I'm really surprised that this sort of thing happens in UK,although there are quite number of muslims that won't comply and may even question the imam's judgements and seek another imam whom they consider to be fair. An educated muslimah who works won't fall for this.

Sadly, this is common. I even have friends that were victim too, one of them was even treated as merely a servant and maltreated by his step-mother after his mum was divorced and she left him there when we were children so I can really empathize with this woman.

Yuck! That video needs to be thumbed down to hell and those women need to have their woman-cards revoked!

They have annoying accents Tongue And the harpy on the left kept saying "you see", that was bloody annoying too. They always said "woman" instead of "women".

12:56 "Women in Britain had to burn their bras to vote" Cheesy Cheesy

We don't want "gender equality", we have "gender celebration" Cheesy Cheesy

What the fuck does polygamy have to do with rape? Roll Eyes

Is it just me or did they completely fail to provide any solutions or suggestions for the problem of women being abused by their beloved shari'ah courts? They didn't even mention it, let alone address it. Muslims are always so quick to rush to Islam's defence and rant about the West when stories like this are aired; they throw fellow Muslims who are suffering under Islam under the bus in the name of defending their religion from "defamation" Roll Eyes

It's truly disgusting how oblivious to human suffering they are, and how their only concern is saving face for the system behind the abuse.

Ugh and they pulled ye 'ole "no country has the correct shari'ah" defence. Nobody gives a fuck what "real" shari'ah is or entails, we can see what shari'ah is as it is practiced on the ground here on planet earth, from Makkah to London; it's ugly, it's bad for women, we don't like it, we don't want it, the UK was wrong to have accepted it and hopefully other Westerners can learn from that big mistake and rigorously oppose any attempts at introducing this insanity into other countries.

I hate that same old "we don't have the real shariah anywhere" technique.  Just trying to "bob and weave" out of another pertinent question, when the answer is so blatantly obvious.

And I also hated when that sister pulled out all of those "you see's"....such a  clever dawah-style linguistic card trick.  Seen that phrase used ova, and ova, and ova again.  lol
