    Such Ad-hominem, Straw-man, and overall Bullshit, has never graced a video before. Fucking nutters. These types of fundamentalist Muslimahs are part of the reason why Muslim women will remain stuck in the Islamic limbo for decades to come.

    Maryam Francois-Cerrah or whatever her name is twitter was laughable during the broadcast. Rather than taking issue with the Shariah Courts, she decided to take issue with Baroness Cox refer to them as parallel legal systems. Ignoring the fact that they hold greater weight than civil courts for many muslims. Her other defence was that women could go to another shariah court where the ruling would be "wildly"different.

    Sorry I don't swear often but what sort of bollocks of an excuse is that? I seldom get so angry. Once again it's not Islam the liberator of women at fault, no just those pesky Muslim. And what's the point of a religious system if you can just go from court to court to get the ruling you want.

    Was a good watch...very sad what these women have to go through. It's an imaginary wall, I wish they could just walk right past it but alas...

    Because the husband accepts the authority of the Sharia court and would thus only accept the divorce if the court ruled on it. Otherwise he would just keep all the property and the woman would have to walk away with nothing (possibly not even her children), as happened to one of the women in the documentary.

    I think it's worse than anything Orwellian, Billy, because at least in that instance the doublespeak was being carried out intentionally. In this case, however, the perpetrators and the victims are the same and that's a terrifying spiral of delusion.

    Muslim women should demand civil marriages; these women shouldn't have just settled for a shari'ah marriage. Is this common amongst Muslims in the UK? To just live together and have children without even being legally married? 

    Here you'd normally go to an imam whose also a registered marriage celebrant to get married, and voila you're both legally and Islamically married, unless you ask him not to register your marriage (eg: if you're in a polygamous marriage and can only be legally married to one but want to be Islamically married to more).

    After watching the documentary, I understand that some women have no choice but to go to these "courts" because they weren't legally married in the first place (hence not legally entitled to anything). I see how the man can get the property and material ppssessions but he couldn't possibly just take the children, could he? Unlike a house under his name, the kids aren't solely his by law.

    It is the other way round!  If she is not married the father has no rights to the children or anything of hers at all!  To make it worse for the father, she can go to court and get the father to pay maintenance for the children!  The British courts would probably also give her a tenancy of the property until the youngest child is eighteen.

    If anyone knows anyone in these situations, send them to British advice services please!!

    Saying a few woo words is not a legal marriage!

    Interestingly, this probably has implications for social security and polygamous marriages.  Maybe Britain should not recognise them at all.

    just saw this. pretty standard apologetics. didn't even mention anything in the program just went straight for West attacks Islam blah blah blah, I did find it odd that polygamy is now going to cure social ills like rape. how does removing a portion of the single female population to be tied with the already married make rape less likely? if you're operating under the assumption that single males cause rape then it makes it more likely. unless they mean they are stopping the married rapists by having them satisfy their lusts by.... oh nevermind it doesn't make sense.
    So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

    ^ It doesn't make sense, you're right; with these women Islam = everything good. The West = the epitome of depravity. Polygamy is Islamic (as opposed to Western) and will hence cure "Western" social ills like rape wacko If more single men = more rape then polygamy would actually lead to more rape as there'd be less women to go around if some men can have multiple long-term partners simultaneously as there'd be men who couldn't get married due to the shortage of available women.

    Plus I did read a study a while back citing monogamous societies are a lot less violent as more men felt like they had a chance with a woman and that more of the males had a partner reducing jealousy etc.

    I used to work with the Bangladeshi community.  A husband would go off and come back with another wife.  The first wife would immediately go to the divorce court. 

    Isn't that happening any more?
