An official with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police tells CNN that the plot intended to target "transport links," but would not provide further details. The source confirmed that there is no link between the Canadian investigation and the Boston bomb attack, and added there was no known link with the Canadians involved in the terror attack on the Algerian gas plant in January.
The CBC, which is a CNN affiliate, quoted "highly placed sources" as saying the suspects were under surveillance for more than a year.
No connection exists between the disrupted plot in Canada and the Boston Marathon bombings, U.S. government sources told CNN's Carol Cratty.
The CBC reported that the investigation was "part of a cross-border operation involving Canadian law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security

TBH, as soon as I saw the thread title I just assumed they would be Muslim. Same when I heard about the Boston bombing. Obviously I was aware of all the caveats about other possibilities and not jumping to conclusions, but Muslims just seemed like the most likely answer. As it turns out, that's the way it was too. It's almost at the point where it'd only be interesting if the perps weren't Muslim.

Well, it is the only religion that is a) widely practiced, b) taken literally most of the time, and c) condones inhumane acts of violence at the same time. So, it's not surprising really.

I suppose "jihadi fuckwits" would be a more accurate term than "Muslims", since all of the former are also the latter, but not vice versa.

Hate to say it, but it seems like Canada is getting slightly like the UK in terms of the way jihadis seem to be popping up

its what Muslims were twitting after Boston marathon bombings. They like to live in a world where Islamist extremists don't blow up people even though the majority of western terrorist bombing perpetuators all mulsim extremists. So lets all live in a bubble with our fingers crossed and pray they are not Muslims and tweet #pleasedontbemuslims
