Short version: two schoolgirls have a high school romance. Fundy parents of one girl wait until the other one turns 18, then immediately force the state to charge her under age of consent/sexual battery/etc laws. State doesn't really want to, AFAICT, so is playing silly buggers.

Kid goes to trial soon, unless she takes a two year house arrest deal, and could end up on a sex offender register blah blah blah.

What Florida obviously needs is a minor law change, so that if two minors are having an established, consensual and non-coercive relationship they can legally continue once one of them reaches legal majority. It shouldn't be hard to sort that, if everyone is fairly sensible.

The other girl is 15, and was 14 when they started. So that's outside the age group allowed by the current laws.
