    Quote
The Huffington Post just pubished Mecca Clock Tower Photo Shows Kaaba In The Shadow Of Abraj Al-Bait Building.  The article opens with: “The Kaaba once took center stage, but now it appears as a minute structure at the foot of a clock tower and hotel, which opened in 2012.  The Abraj Al-Bait Towers loom over the Masjid Al-Haram in an ostentatious show of luxury that stands in stark contrast to the piety and history symbolized by the Kaaba, a cube-shaped structure believed by Muslims to have been originally built by the prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael.”  But this photo included in the article says everything without words.  It deserves to be used as a meditation on “what has changed”...

That picture says so much about Islam today, and historically too.

I never looked into the whole allah is based on a moon god thing, the pointy bit on top that looks like a crescent moon just reminded me of it.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Is it wrong that my first reaction on seeing this picture was to try and figure out what lens it was taken with?

(History be damned, philistinism is for winners..)

I dreamt about a giant penis built to match the Burj Khalifa here in the US. Then I woke up.

Glad we don't do stupid shit like that anymore here.

So it's not just me who has visions of the remnants of that tower stretching into a sky in some post-apocalyptic Mecca. Excellent.

Except that my deeper, broader and infinitely more brilliant vision (obv) encompasses every concrete and glass folly in the Gulf.
