For a $330,000 burger, taste testers thought the flavor fell a little flat.

The hefty price tag, however, wasn't for some fancy, rare cut of meat. In fact, this meat had never so much as mooed in a previous life: It was beef grown in a laboratory.

Dutch scientists Monday unveiled their ambitious research project, years in the making, with a public taste test of their cultured beef in London.

Volunteer tasters sampled hamburger made from the lab-grown beef made from stem cells. Scientists hope it can one day alleviate a food crisis as the world's population swells and help combat climate change.

Theologically doesn't this make pork grown this way halal?

I've wondered the same thing myself. It's one of those 21st century conundrums for muslims, like which direction should you pray in space, come to think of it, is space travel even halal for muslims? Or a more common example, if a muslim man can't make a living, is it halal for his muslimah wife/s to earn a living for him and themselves, even though traditionally the woman's place is in the home, I'm sure some clerics would have us believe that it's always the mans duty to provide for his wife(s).
Presumably "is cosmetic surgery halal", might have been a 20th century muslim conundrum, with from what I've heard many Islam scholars coming to the conclusion that it is haram even though it's apparently popular in Iran. The general line taken on this subject being that we are not supposed to alter how Allah made us and could this even raise doubts on the legitimacy of circumcision in Islam? Hum.

When will you say the prayer? Huh? When you harvest the meat?

If it technically is still pork won't it be haram? Especially if it can carry Trichinosis? (If we put a modern view on the Torah/Quranic ban on pork)

Praying in space - got that one covered.

Shaykh al-Qaradawi has said on his "Shariah and life" program on Arabic Al-Jazeera that the upholding of life is more important than strict following of the religion regarding a young Muslimah (in Denmark, of all places) who would work as a cashier in a supermarket and thus sell haram products (everything properly sealed though).
But then he has flip-flopped a few times - mostly to a less strict position (like allowing female suicide bombers...  mysmilie_977 )

Maybe when it comes down in price.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
