    Parallels with excuses for slavery made by muslim apologists - but empires through history have been built on back of bonded labour so he's partly right.

    "While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country," he said in a statement.

    "I have said all along that although we must offer our empathy, equally important is our action. In the coming days, we will demand just that of elected officials in our state who have failed to recognise the racism in our state and our country for far too long."

    It's not working. Nothing works here any longer, it feels like strangulation. I think he is going to have a second term, I had no idea the racists were so dug in and so powerful, it's disheartening and I moved away from my farm town so I could get my kids away from them and take refuge in the city. Very sad time to be American, it was already pretty embarrassing but now it feels dirty on top of that.
