In a conversation with my teacher I said any joke, or criticism, or doubt on a religions core claim of truth is an act of blasphemy. He assured me that as a non-believer I can't direct an insult at god so I'm in the clear. Surely this means I am outside his jurisdiction, which undermines his power? Not only that, he assured me most religious people wouldn't consider a joke about god blasphemy, but this is surely taken false security in consensus.
Can someone explain how exactly blasphemy works? We were talking specifically about Christians in this case but doesn't this extent to all gods?
Maybe you'd better ask Christians, then. Different ones will probably have different definitions of blasphemy. We have a pet one running around at the moment, and she'd probably welcome a break from the other thread.
