    Personally, I was never taught about the women that supposedly did battle with the prophet or his generals. Are there any hadiths or Quranic verses that explicitly allow women to have an active role in warfare? Are there any that even mention these women that fought during that time? Were they warriors or did they just tend to the wounded, meals, and other "needs" of the army?

    Don't remember if she listed any hadithes though. Haven't read it in a while.

    Interesting! I am following this blog just because and bookmarking that post. I don't see where she cites any sources, I just scanned the article, and this quote makes me roll my eyes "and as they and steal the rightful power given to us by God."  Overall though, those statements that she makes about women and their roles in war interest me a lot.

    Yep, they are interesting, aren't they? Never heard about them before I visited her blog. I used to read through it back when I was a Muslim, trying desperately to find those so-called "rights" Islam gave us.

    Bit surprised neither of you have heard of them. One of the funniest was Aisha (I believe) who tricked a jew into thinking there were men behind her, chased him and hacked his head off.

    I've never heard of that before! Jeez, I only learned about Aisha's marriage and a little bit about her opposition to Ali as calipha (I think? Can't remember.)

    I'm pretty sure you can find a hadith to justify anything, just like you can with the endless fatwas that are being churned out.

    well QSE., the endless fatwas of Islam are different from Hadith time line  and the statements in hadith literature.  They are are limited to "Companions of Prophet of Islam" where as fatwas you can do it and I can do it, The only  rule is that you have to be a Male and Muslim., If you are not Muslim take that shahada and talk some nonsense in a Mosque congregation,   after that you can start issuing  those endless fatwas .

    Any ways,  the goal in this thread should be getting proper names of women folk in early Islam and stories about them/around them.  I am sure plenty of new converts in  Islam specially women folks from west can write all sorts of early Islamic heroine harry potter  stories. And I think  that  fatal feminist_Nahida is one of them from US of A..

     Cheesy jeez, that's a terrible trailer. Love that they made the first woman seem like a victim for being captured even though Muslims captured women all the time. But if they're not Muslims, they don't matter, right?

    With the amount of research provided and lack of any real evidence other than hopeful thinking, I am inclined to think that these types of women never existed in Islam.

    Ultimately, it is about the LAWFUL NEEDS and nothing else! If women had joined Muhammad's army that would have assured higher chances of victory. Very LAWFUL for women and very NEED for Muhammad.

    By that the woman had meant that she is the queen of her household and heaven, and hence can do anything there, except she can't go above her husband. It reminds me of the way the science teachers here used to say a certain definition, like "Inertia is nothing but a property of matter...."

    I had the same reactions as any other female convert. I believed all the hype, and then when it got crowded out by endless overt and covert encouragements to  "OBEY!" and stop being a person, it didn't seem as if the stories were real any more.
    A very long time ago I read that much of the stories of how bad things were in Jahaliyya were created intentionally, to make Islam look wonderful in comparison. It would be interesting if this "Real Muslim Women Warriors" stuff were apologist.

    I think the worst was the first Muslim martyr, that woman who was gruesomely impaled through her private parts by a spear.
    As if sacrificing your survival instincts and your life were a good and noble thing to do for a cause. Preservation of life is more sacred, isn't it? Can't you do more for a cause while alive? Why does death give more to it than life?

    Usually because your death inspires others to stand up and act out for their rights or wants. Most of the time, what stops people is fear of death or being harmed. So, seeing someone that believes in their cause enough to risk death is inspiring to people.

    I just read books on the Sahaba, during my time as Muslim. The sources were listed in the back, so I do not remember the Hadith regarding it.
