EzraJT and Inception.
I'm not sure what you're confused about.
The first hypothetical was about a 70 year old guy (with no commitments like raising young children), and who wants to kill himself.
The second hypothetical is about a 700 year old guy (again with no commitments like raising young children), and who wants to kill himself.
Both hypotheticals are in the future where medial tech lets people live forever and which only costs $1 per year.
Both hypotheticals include the guy talking to his family and friends and psychologists for 5 years before coming to this decision point.
What should he do? Suicide or not?
Lots of people said no suicide for the 70 year old. But, whatever reasoning they had for that decision, should work for the 700 year old too. Do you agree? Or do you think the reasoning would be different?
If you're still not sure what I mean. Maybe introducing another hypothetical will help. Let's say there is a 7,000 year old guy with 200 generations of descendants. Should this guy not kill himself because his family will be sad?
I would commit sucide at that age o.o
Who the hell wants to live so much?
And what does it matter how old he is,the situation is still the same.
If I had a friend, who decided to commit suicide, I would do everything to change her ideas.
I would do my best to help her, but if her decision does not change, then no matter how hard it will be to accept the reality, I will let her make her own choice.
