  • How do you refute the 'signs' of Doomsday
     OP - March 14, 2014, 10:40 AM

Just out of my own curiosities and well fears as well, how does one refute the 'signs' of Doomsday.

Has anyone here looked extensively into this topic? I haven't actually studied the topic but from the little I've heard picked up on or read about apparently the physical signs of doomsday have come into play, like the drying up of the one of the oceans and the mixed up weather (All claimed to be signs of Qiyama). Does this actually hold any merits? And again has anyone really looked into this topic extensively?

The signs are very general, vague, and unspecific. The more specific the signs become, the more ridiculous they seem, and the more unnoticed they go among Muslims. If you haven't noticed already, these signs always display the general theme of things going bad. Things can either become worse or better, so you already have a 50% advantage. A similar theme is recorded in some of the signs of the "End Times"  in the Bible.

To put it short, they are unimpressive and don't really deserve too much attention.

Dooms day according to islam wont happen until the sun dies or explodes or there is a massive solar storm, which wont happen for eons..   the other signs we read in the hadiths are to mark the arrival of Jesus, mahdi and the dajaal etc,  not the end of life or some armagedon

Yep. The fact that so many  times people have claimed the world was ending. Hell, Jesus himself was an apocalyptic preacher who thought the Kingdom of god was at hand. More than 2000 years later and we’re still waiting…

Islam is a cult of death. Mo thought he was living in the end times and the theology is all about that, the end. This life is nothing. A test. An illusion. irrelevant. It's all about the afterlife. Death is coming and they can't wait. Islam began as a doomsday cult in dark age Arabia, and the writing are the writings of a warlord as he reimagines an iron age desert god. The only truth you find in islam is a glimpse into our own past. No more, no less. Whatever truth lies hidden is simply the truths of the cultural norms and mindset of that society and time. Historically and psychologically it's interesting, but that's all it is. No more, no less.

The real miracle is that anyone still believes it.

Many religions have had end time prophecies or something of that sort. It is not something limited to Abrahamic religions. Humans have been around for more than 200,000 years. Honestly, if God wanted to end humanity, he could have done so a long time ago. I also find it ironic considering we have become relatively more civilized (and morally upright) than before, not the other way around which the Islamic end time prophecy seems to imply.

End time prophecies are bullshit. They are a very effective form of controlling the masses, as the fear (and hope) keeps many in line. They use your emotions against you. Deep down, I think most people really find it nonsensical, but sometimes let their emotions get the better of them. I understand your position and fright, but know that if there is a God and he is as described by the Quran, he is a pathetic, insecure, and cruel, malevolent being. He is not worthy of any worship.

But definitely just look through Yeezevee's first post whenever you have doubt. That should be enough to comfort you. Some of the "signs" are so myopic and so obviously dated, and only full of stuff people living in that location in that era would think of. And nothing more. It is just silly. I guess Im also afraid of all the people I stand to loose and disappoint by this venture, you know how stuck muslims are on the fact that THIS is the ONLY TRUTH. I stand to lose everything  Cry but I know I can't live a lie as well

I can't force myself to believe, that's not believing. And if you really look at majority of muslims, so many of them are not true believers but blind followers because they too scared to ask the questions we are asking, it all boils down to Allah knows best for them.

Fear that is drilled in you from a young age is not easy to kick in one go but I am trying Smiley it helps when you get to say what you really thinking here

I remember reading about the 'signs of Judgment day' not too long ago and considered making a thread about it. I'd copied and pasted a few into the text box before I realised how absurd an endeavor it was. There are about 77 'minor' prophecies (a few of which could probably pass as being fulfilled if you squint hard enough though that is hardly a significant feat given how vague they are, and some which are so absurd that no amount of semantic gymnastics or cherrypicking will ever redeem them) along with a handful of 'major' ones.  The latter include 'the Beast' rising out of the earth and the sun rising from the West. As far as I'm concerned there's nothing worth refuting.

This drawing Mohammed business: how far can it get taken? I mean if you draw a stick figure and say it's Mohammed, it's obviously not a representation of how he would have looked anyway.

So what if you draw two black dots and say it's Mohammed wearing a white robe in a snowstorm?

Or one black dot (as above, with one eye closed)?

    Etc.
