How would you answer this to a Christian, Muslim, or any other theist?

Q: Why live and enjoy your lives when you won't be able to remember anything after death? Why wake up every morning and bother dealing with the hardships of life? Wouldn't it be much easier to just drop everything? Why live?

    Me: Hey Allah!
    Allah: KAFIR!

Staying alive is part of my strategy for long-term survival in this world.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

Well, many of the sahaba did just that. They literally dropped everything just to get killed for the sake of Allah:

One the authority of Jabir radhiallahu 'anhu who said, A man said, "O Messenger of Allah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam where will I be if I am killed?" He sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam replied, "In Paradise". So he threw away some dates he had in his hand and then went and fought until he was killed

Why live if you believe there is a superior realm of experience after you die?

Yeah. That is pretty much the whole message, isn't it? Stop wasting your time living when you could be dying and really living it up.

Both Muslims and Christians will argue that suicide will send them to Hell. However, for the Muslims they have another option: Jihad for the sake of Allah!

If that's truly the only reason why a believer does not want their life to end, what does it say about the existential quality of living as a believer in this world? It paints a pretty grim picture of their worldview.

I once raised this very question with a muslim friend who not much earlier helped me in joining the fold. Rattling on about how God is testing us in this life so we can't do that was pretty much the answer I was given.

Exactly, it shows how shitty their lives must be. To know that Paradise or Heaven awaits you but you have to keep living in this world until you die (unless if it's martyrdom).

Did you ask him what's the point of God testing us if he is "All-knowing"?

Because apparently being the maximally-powerful, all-knowing and ever-present author of our actions isn't enough. It needs to test us, too.

Because I want to.  I don't understand why my eventual end should make my present experiences less valuable to me. If anything, it's just the opposite.

Have you heard the good news? There is no God!

didn't  get that far, kind of backed off to be honest, I could see through a whole pile of their arguments from the get go but didn't want to blow my cover or make things awkward so early on in my 'new life'.
We've lost touch since, I still rate them as a decent human being, in fact much as they'd hate me to say it, I consider this person to be too good for Islam.

Except originally this is precisely what Christians did: killed themselves to go to Heaven. Since a number of splinters started offing themselves in large numbers the Church made a ruling against it. That’s where the myth about it being a sin comes in.

Interesting question. If I may take a detour:

I've always wondered if there's ever been a sufistic reading of Heidegger. Perhaps Z10 may know? Assuming, of course, that he's still active on the forums.

Why do you watch a movie when it will end? Why do you go to parties, have a nice meal with your family, or travel to parts of the world knowing that these experiences will end? Life works the same way.

Heres another Q, how do you deal with the death of a loved one knowing you probably won't see them in the afterlife again :(

The same process of grief I'd go through if I did believe in an afterlife -- anger, denial, pain, depression -- but without the extra anxiety about the possibility they are being roasted and brutalised in God's torture basement.

This. Also, knowing that you will never see the deceased again (because there is no afterlife) makes you more caring and considerate towards your other loved ones.

Why live with religion? So you can be one of the few so called people on the straight path praying to the almighty God so He can get his fill? Believing that the majority of mankind will burn forever for not doing what you're doing based most likely on how and where you were brought up? All so in the end you can get into heaven and have perpetual coitus with your virgin maids, while you simultaneously indulge every other physical desire your still entirely human body may have?

    I'd rather have no point.

If they don't want to live, it is their choice. But they should be aware of one thing : death means the end of everything.
