  • Since your "abandonment" of Islam, have any of you been in a masjid?
     OP - April 15, 2014, 06:02 PM

I have, before I became vocal about my apostasy.
An example would be Eid al fitr prayers, I could escape Jumu'ah when I was younger, but not Eid.

My mind runs, I can never catch it even if I get a head start.

I attended one Salat al Eid, which was held in a room connected to the masjid. Thankfully I didn't have to pray Smiley

    I had to pray :(

Pisses me of now, thinking about it.

I quite got the impression from you that you weren't vocal about it. How'd that go?

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Oh, what gave off that impression?
It was quite some time ago. One side of my family handled it better than the other (trying to avoid too much detail).

I can't recall exactly, though part of it was not wanting your own voice in youtube vids.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

Not using my own voice was for different reasons.
My current recording devices are atrocious, aiming to invest in a proper microphone when my schedule clears up.

    Fair enough.

Unfortunately, I am still in the closet about my apostasy so I have to go a couple times a week. I once slept during sajda and didn't get until prayer was finished. I swear everyone in my community thinks I'm mentally ill.

I go sometimes with the husband, and I actually kind of like it now and then.  wacko

I don't know, something about sitting in that funny little mosque with all the other women up on the carpeted floor and just taking one hour out of a Friday to sit and relax and think is still therapeutic to me.

Yes, in my head I'm scoffing at some of the sermon, and yes, I know I wouldn't be treated as kindly if I were being honest, but still. Something about the whole setup forces me to relax and slow down for that one quiet hour, before the absolute clusterfuck of everyone trying to get out of the mosque's parking lot all at once happens.

I know what u mean lua, its the familiarity and community that feels nice. can take that without the ritual

Or the ritual without the belief.

Im still in the closet, so i go every now and then. and to be honest i get a fmailiar comfort form the mosque.  During my younger days it was a nice place for me, and i still get a sense of that when i go.  sometimes i go and just sit and listen to the silence for a while.
