I was going to ask that about mine, too, when I first changed it. I worried it would be too flashy, but I do love this game...

I was just telling Cornflower about that when she said the N64 was an abomination. How do you explain the Ocarina of Time, then, Cornflower? Grin

I guess not everyone played it, but I spent so many days off from school playing and replaying that thing. Majora was so so. But speaking of soundtracks, Megaman 2 had some of the best music for an NES game out there...if you're into 8-bit.

I'm going to change my avatar, it would make a cool quasi meme but it's irritating me too much.

Just for reference (this was the avatar):

Aawwww man, maybe I'll have to reconsider my stance on Nintendo 64. I played it once, and I just didn't like it. I have a hard time getting used to new things if I really liked the old version. And I LOOOOOVED SNES. Hmmm, I'll try N64 and see if I judged it too harshly  yes

^ Well, in all fairness I can only think of a handful of classics for it, Ocarina being one. A lot of the other ones were really fun multiplayer ones, we killed a lot of time with Mario Kart & Smash Bros. and all of those. Ocarina has also been ported into like every Nintendo product ever since, so you may be able to catch it on something more modern someday anyway.  yes

Old school Nintendo was the stuff. I don't like them so much now, since they're still stuck with the same franchises and aren't branching out and taking risks.

In terms of more recent games: Dark Souls, Journey, Shogun 2: Total War, A Link Between Worlds were some of my favourites.

^ Right, I have no idea what they're doing nowadays. The gamecube was as far as I went, and I don't remember liking much from that at all. After that, I went to the PS2 and stayed there for a while and got really into horror/survival.

I've wanted to play Dark Souls forever but I've been warned it will be a huge time sink. Someday...

I'm a pretty experience gamer but I ended up with 173 deaths on my first play-through of Dark Souls.

Once my exams are over, I'm going to take a break in work, and finish Dark Souls II in a 2 Week continuous play through (sleep, eat, play!).

    Not really.

To be honest though, I haven't really done too much gaming of late, although deffo gonna pick up dem Dark Souls for that summer masochism. Game I've played most of late would probably be pokemon. Amazingly deep tbh.

Don't feel badly about Pokemon. I had a father explain to me two weekends ago in depth why he thinks a Pokemon interest is superior to most if not all other interests from early childhood into adulthood.
I nearly converted on the spot, it was so compelling. But then, I am known to be prone to conversion.

I don't feel badly about it. I'm a proud fan, and honestly believe it to be a great game with depth, when played competitively. Not to mention its got a huge community full of enthusiastic fans. What's not to love?

Now you are trying to convert me. I know it. I have had Pokemon Da'wah twice in two weeks. The universe is out to get me, and so are my children.

Lol, did I mention that competitive pokemon combines elements of chess, poker and classic rpgs in its gameplay to create a unique experience that's hard to emulate? Plus, you get to use cute furry creatures to fight for you as your slaves, so there's always that.

Maybe you and that father know each other... a Pokemon conspiracy to convert mothers of multiple small children, thus gaining an entire family's loyalty to the franchise.
You had to say RPG. I was into Warhammer like no one's business. Cyberpunk and Vampyre were not bad, either. I was always Nosferatu. That is back when gaming was still a bunch of people sitting around together in the same room, with papers and books. Even if you didn't like someone, their being a good gamemaster/dungeonmaster was an asset. Right about the same time in history when everyone realized D&D was bogged down by numbers.
Oh, but you said slaves. Not fond of that concept. I am resisting conversion, and being a chess idiot is helping me. Embarrassment is a strong deterrent. Still nudging the kids over to it, though. Better that, than any other.

Pokemon is pretty awesome. I used to play a lot of Pokemon until Black & White, at which point I lost interest, because it felt a bit repetitive, probably because I haven't played much multi-player...Magikarp was the best pokemon!

I really don't do well with the grinding aspect of games, that may be why many RPGs don't appeal to me. I do appreciate the strategy aspects, just not the repetition.

Repetition is easy to avoid with original style RPG.

It matters if the RPG has good game-play mechanics. If the game is like Skyrim which has god-awful combat mechanics, than it can get very irritating.

    Any recommendations, three or Descent?

I'm not even sure if the first category it would fall into is RPG, but there was this NES game called Wizardry that was this insanely hard and unforgiving D&D style maze game. I absolutely loved that thing, and it is on our list to play this summer.

So far, my husband and I have agreed to Super Mario Bros, Megaman, Contra & Wizardry. We have some bets already placed on who will win Mario. He is going to clean this house like he's never cleaned before.
