I believe it already is against the law for one parent to run off with a child to another country. There's an international treaty on international child abductions that covers this, but you're SOL if your ex runs off to a country that's not a signatory.

Which includes Pakistan as it has not signed the treaty.

People should have that on cards.

    "Happy Ramadan!"

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

So you couldn't do something along those lines if not those exact words? Me and mummy maybe?

That's good, QSE, I like the way you worded that, at least he'll see that it's down to belief and not a default setting. He may even end up one day thinking 'oh my poor dilusional parents'.

Well that's me sh1t out of luck then. Sure why would they, after all who wouldn't want to risk throwing away the chance to rescue a child from one of those godless, infidel countries?

Glad I could help. And, hey. One day you may get a card through the post on Ramadan.

Joking aside, as you liked my other suggestion, what about this? The child asks why mummy isn't eating, and why you're failing to not eat, and you just word it in a way a child could understand?

"Me and mummy think the god we believe in doesn't want us to eat in the day time. Why? Well, it's a religion. Like, you know how some people are christians? They believe their god, who is actually our prophet Isa...yes, really, their religion tells them prophet Isa is god, but they call him Jesus. And hindus believe in lots of gods, and they have a party in Autumn. The festival of lights. Hindus call it Diwali, which is a bit like Eid for muslims or Christmas for christians. And they believe this, and they believe that, their god, and their god, etc. Now, just like they believe in the gods of their religion, mummy and I also believe in the god of our religion. And, like I said, we believe that the god wants us to not eat during the daytime. Yes, that's right, there are lots of religions and different people believe different things. Well, no, we can't prove it's true, but that's religion. Religion is believing in things you can't prove for a fact."

    Too on the nose?

Jokes aside, anyone know the chronological historical events that led to the month of ramadann.

I vaguely know it is the month the quraan was revealed and is celebrated, how did fasting come about and why and in what time of the development of Islam did fasting in ramadan become a thing

I think dual nationality still effects it, or I might be wrong, been a while since I looked at the legality of it.  Had to have an added clause to the children's contact rulings in court to prevent it way back when.  Moroccan embassy aren't allowed to issue my children a passport and the british passport agency also aren't allowed to.

Well it's the month that Mo went and sat in a cave (such a deep dude) and thought about how he should gain world power (aka thought about god) and Gabby descended down apparently and gave him words of a book he couldn't apparently read.

Wasn't fasting something that preislamic pagans did as well?  Only not for the same period of time IIRC.

I am sure it's along those lines.
But look at Judaism and Christianity, where Jews fast Yom Alkubber and Christians originally fasted lent (unlike today).
He might have taken that out of the bag as well. Make his job easier.

Yep, and as time went by, he added more and more elaborate details to really make this month super duper awesome magical. Like laylat al qadr, and the shayateen being chained up. And the awesomely amazing rewards you can reap by just not eating for half a day (but then being totally free to binge during night) and pray some extra rakaat during the night.

By the way, when is Ramadan this year?

By my calculations, it should start on 28th June. Give or take a day or two.

In that case I really must make moves to visit the parents before that date.  Grin

I'm not mean enough to taunt them with my eating even though they know I hold no stock in fasting and religion, I just couldn't do that to them lol.

This will be my first Ramadan since my apostasy. Still not sure whether I'm really going to fast or eat at one of my friends house and pretend to fast. Afraid they'll notice, though. I think I'll definitely do the first couple of days, those are always the worst for me. I can't fake the headache I normally get.

Other than the physical part of fasting, I also dread the sudden religiousness of my family. There were several occasions lately where I've had to bite my tongue not to criticize Islam. That will only increase as the conversations will be more and more about Islam.

The future is full of thrilling possibilities.

Oh, I really sympathize with you Trustworthy. I could barely keep up the act. It ended with me mocking Islam and laughing at certain Islamic beliefs. I didn't fast a single day, the least I did was drink so I didn't get dehydrated (with 18+ hours of fast), and took the occasional bite when no one was at home.
