I feel we need to be careful here of magnifying an issue that is actually very rare.  False accusations according to the CPS, stand at less than 1% https://fullfact.org/factchecks/false_rape_allegations_serious_but_rare-29200. (although some stats do show higher)

Sadly this focus on false accusations continues to impact on a victims ability to see justice served, since most people continue to believe that false rape accusations happen more often than they actually do.

Women who report rape are often already believed to be lying.

It's not exactly fair, I'm sure, but I do tend to believe the accuser over the accused just for that reason. I'd reserve judgment, sure, but I just have the natural inclination to believe a person who comes forward with these allegations. Most of the time, when someone actually decides to speak up about being raped or press charges, they have indeed been assaulted and they will nevertheless face scrutiny.

That's what's so frustrating about those instances like the one I experienced. I have known women before who were actually assaulted, and this one woman's case was a huge outlier. But not only do these instances damage just about everyone involved and is a complete tragedy for the person wrongfully accused and their family, it also hurts the cause for victims of these crimes and casts more doubt and suspicion on every case that comes after. Besides which, it just thrills these MRA guys to no end.

    Except with rape.  http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/mar/13/rape-investigations-belief-false-accusations

Of women that is, the whole no smoke without fire thing applies to child rape more than to adult women.  If we hear that a man/woman has been accused of molesting a child, we will forever be inclined to view them that way.

On the other hand, more often than not, a man claims innocence in rape, tells his family, friends etc that she is lying, and more often than not they will believe him.

Yeah, I've noticed this with a lot of the MRA types. They've all got stories about their friend who was falsely accused by some lying bitch; they just accept that their convicted rapist pal is innocent and the victim is a liar then use this as justification for ranting about the epidemic of false rape accusations. I'll never forget one guy claiming his buddy had sex with a 12-y/o he thought was 18+ and everyone lamenting how unfair the system was and what a little harlot the child was. It's sickening.

I agree lua, those very few instances where it happens are awful for the long term effect they have on whether real victims are believed or not.  Or indeed whether the woman will even come forward when she really has been raped.

People really don't consider that newspapers primarily report stories that are rare, and the impact of this is that people believe these rare stories are the rife ones.

Plus as you all say, it gives meat to those particular sort of men (and women too, since there are many women who try to cloak themselves in wholesomeness by distancing themselves from 'tainted' representations of women) to continue to rant about the injustice they all face every time they pull their cock out.

There is more to it than that actually.

Low self esteem, which is rife within young girls these days, contributes towards their earlier sexual experiences.  Parents can place numerous controls, but a child absent self esteem, is a vulnerable target for anyone who would offer that esteem to them.

It's not just freedom, or money, or bad parenting.  There is much more to the stories.

True. With a too high a supply of energy the onset of puberty has dropped age wise as well as society encouraging children to grow up faster (technology and putting children into fashionable clothing and encouraging make-up at the same time).

Interestingly girls enter puberty earlier if they are around adult males more, as well as if they have been neglected early in life.

It also has to do with whether the father is around and how positive the relationship is. If the father is around and the relationship is positive then puberty comes later.

Exactly! You forget about all the convictions and all the unreported rapes, and you just remember these sensational cases.

I've known a few people to be falsely accused. Even if I didn't I'd be aware of the possibility, just as I am in other types of accusations. But the thing is, and maybe I'm in the minority here, it doesn't taint anything for me. I don't automatically believe one person is lying based on he said/she said. I understand either one could be telling the truth, but I honestly don't automatically find myself siding with one person over another just because.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

I'm not sure if you're the minority there or not...Even if you aren't, the problem is if you're a victim who is on the fence about coming forward, that minority is a real issue. They're often going to be vocal and brutal. It may be enough to discourage a woman from pressing charges if she's seen people accusing and doubting and making awful comments about women who, honest or not, came out before her with their accusations. It's probably enough to make some women prefer to deal with it quietly and not draw more attention to herself.

I completely agree. The entire thing is fucked up.

I have to ask, how do you know they were falsely accused?

Very often a conviction won't happen because of lack of evidence, or the defendants legal representation being able to successfully turn it all against the woman.  Legally allowed to completely shred the rape victim apart on the stand, using her clothes, alcohol level, or sexual history against her.

Lack of conviction is often taken as some proof that the allegation was false in the first place.

Rape, especially if the woman has taken some time before reporting it, is often extremely hard to prove.

That's why I ask, an actual false rape allegation is quite different, and results in prosecution of the false victim, which is why I ask, how exactly do you know these people you speak of, were definitely falsely accused?

     Cheesy

Sorry for the terseness. Just played some football in the summer heat, mind not really in it. Although I vehemently disagree with that part, considering my own experience in retreating into a virtual world(s).

Cheesy I like your terseness. One of these days there will be virtual reality football where you don't have to experience the summer heat or any of the health benefits that go along with exercise or any of that terrible wind in your hair. Also, have you ever wanted to experience life as a chicken running from foxes? Good news!

I'm ready, reality is a bummer, so hurry up, technology!

Ugh, I totally hate these sorts of messages.

It's still a display of beauty.  Just a different sort.  That of beauty with purity, so much more beautiful as it is pure.

Also, not on topic, but I also hate the idea thrown around that the veil removes pressure to conform to beauty standards.  It doesn't.  A man can request to see your face before marriage, so beauty is still judged.

That's just bs, just like Berbs said. You still compare yourself to other women, you still have to be "smoking hot" for your husband. You know, especially in the West where he is constantly tempted by other women (oh, I've literally heard this one!). I don't know where this idea comes from that appearance and looks don't matter just because you are covered?  Huh? It's so not true, and they know it.

And personally, I think a woman covered in dark cloth from head to toe just because she has a vagina is far more objectifying than me going out in a pair of jeans and sneakers. But that's just me. I've had far more Muslim men hitting on me and asking for my hand in marriage Roll Eyes while being completely covered, than I've had men hitting on me while being "uncovered".

Yes? I thought this was generally understood by now, that women are supposed to be invisible. Like Fatimah bint Mo said "the best woman is the one who no man sees, and who sees no man" Smiley
