    Some may laugh at the 30 day period option but I once got out of the swimming month in my high school gym class by telling the instructor that I was on my period each week until it was over. He was old and known for being a bit out there, I don't know if he was just afraid to call bullshit or if he kept forgetting that I made that excuse. Either way, know your audience, it might work!

    Could have had PCOS which sometimes does lead to periods of a month. Friend in only uni had a period which wouldn't stop so had to take meds.

    My friend takes this birth control that delays periods for three months, but once you get your period it can last to a month. You never know.

    @ Lily and wiselyskeptical- True. I think nowadays they would require a doctor's note for any of the above in my high school, but back in my day I could just try my luck with the gym teacher, thankfully. It was not fun to have a swimming class in the middle of the day.

    Does a long period that lasts beyond the appointed time even count as a valid non fasting excuse?

    It doesn't count as a no praying excuse, since anything after the 15th day of bleeding is taken as separate to the actual 'impure' blood of the period.  If it goes over 15 days then a woman is supposed to just wash before each prayer, since she is meant to use her regular period as her guide.

    At least that is what I was taught.

    Yea, but some women honestly just don't stop bleeding.

    A  contraceptive I took once made me bleed for 3 months, and another friend of mine has been on an almost 7 month period so far.  In view of the future, for a woman who perhaps hasn't stopped bleeding for 7 months, you would have given up thinking 'I will make it up soon' at that stage thinking it might never end.  :/

    You know though, makes you think, why is it different?  why must a woman make up her fasts another time, but not her prayers?  why is it ok to go to the mosque during your period for eid, but not for the rest of the year during that time?  why is impurity ok one day but not another?

    Why am I even asking these questions lol it's not like Islam is ever going to make sense right.   Cheesy

    Yeah, it's just never going to make any sense. I once read a whole bunch of online fatwas about menstruation and disorders that may affect it, and I couldn't decide if it was more disgusting or more amusing to listen to these guys try to speak with authority about what women should watch for in their menstrual cycles...

    We did in December last year, my husband also missed a few days for some reason or another. I prefer to get it over with with the rest of them when at least there's some solidarity/lack of food in the house. I would hate to make up a full month, though. Especially December, because I love winter/Christmas foods! Not worth it!

    We get too much snow in New York for me to really like winter.
    Plus fall is my favourite season so anything after is just a disappointment.

    Yeah, the snow has seemed especially excessive the last few years, but I still love it, no matter how many times it freezes my hands or keeps me from getting up my driveway or makes the gutters fall right off our building...

    I hate fasting, yet I have to do it becuz if I come out of the closet my parents will go ballistics. I remember someone telling me that Islam must suck ass cuz it's joyless.

    I wouldn't say it's joyless, there are good memories of the culture I lived in mixed with Islam. Eid is still good, even though I am an atheist now I can feel everyone just glad that Ramadan is over.

    I'll use the period excuse for two weeks, 'tis what I did last year Cheesy I also never make up for missed days. I have a mild headache from today's fast. It's going to be an awful month mysmilie_977

    No...but I'm not going to risk eating at home...and I'm not going to eat a lot. Thankfully I have a prescription to  adderall to suppress my appetite so I will be hungry to eat at 9:30pm at night....

    I'm sure my ex wife used to have PMS (PMT) for 30 days of the month, she was miserable all the time.
