Islamists threaten to behead Kosovar journalist

In an interview with AFP news agency, he revealed that Islamic radicals called him a renegade and threatened to behead him, as it happened with American journalists in Iraq. In particular, Visar Duriqi wrote about extremist groups in Kosovo and the recruitment of volunteers for participating in armed conflicts in Syria and Iraq. “Duriqi’s plight is extremely worrying and the threats should be taken seriously,” the organization’s Secretary-General Christophe Deloire said. “The government must provide him with police protection. An investigation must be carried out to identify those responsible for this unacceptable behavior and the courts must deal firmly with them.” According to a rating of Reporters Without Borders, in 2014, the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo ranks 80 out of 180 states in the world in terms of media freedom.

Duriqi's coverage of Islamic issues and religious extremism has been a source of annoyance in radical circles.
