    Lol Musivore
That's a hard day for you...
I dont feel sad about not being excited. Eid have lost meaning and even when it hold one, I didnt like it

It was good as a child though? We got spoilt. We got money. We got new clothes. We could afford sweets. We got smiles?

Being ex-muslim doesn't mean losing the traditions you love. If atheist/nonreligious people of christian cultural background can make Christmas their own, no reason atheist/nonreligious people of muslim cultural background can't make eid their own.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

They need to get rid of the ul Adha part of the Eid name. It spoils it!

    ^ LIKE!

Secularise the tradition, then all people regardless of whether they Muslim or not can get involved as they do with Holi and Christmas. It is wayyy more inclusive.

Not sure that would be enough to convert me back to the cause Lily. What is it you don't like about it?

    I agree. I think we're just a bit life-weary, tradition-weary, and people-weary perhaps.

As a tried and true atheist with not a single religious bone in his body, I'm happy to say I fucking love Christmas.

Why would I need to secularise Eid, when I dont feel excited about it?
And I dont even like Christmas.

About Eid ul Adha - the whole sacrificing a child thing grinds my gears, other than that party on down.

One of those moments where I pause and wonder if Iblis is really the bad guy.

Dogs are man's best friend. They bring security and joy and friendship and a love purer than most humans give. Angels don't like dogs. Apparently some of them are jinns.

Allah told Abraham to murder his child. On the way to murdering his child, Iblis sent three jinns to stop him.

Seriously, you're telling me this is the bad guy?

Ok Im bored. Tell me something interesting you are doing.

So it's Eid again. Never felt excited about it. So it's gonna be boring for me.

I am going to take the children to swim in a pool of dried corn kernels. Seriously. Also to pick out exotically coloured pumpkins and ride in a kiddie train fashioned from old barrels. All their favorites.

Today: Starting to chop out a bit of wasteland someone has lent me to raise plants on. Digging up and planting banana suckers. Beer later.

Tomorrow: Going to Himeji with my Mrs and a friend (both shoemakers) to look at a leather tannery. Then a visit to  the castle, I hope.

    No rest. Ever.

If you are giving out food to other people in your street do what I do, add a lot of vinegar to one of the dishes.
