  • Who would react like this to a black guide dog?
     OP - October 18, 2014, 09:01 AM

    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/blind-student-banned-from-tesco-supermarket-for-bringing-in-dog-9799562.html

    Quote
A blind student was left in tears when she was refused service in a Tesco supermarket - for bringing her guide dog inside.

Maya Makri, a student at London's Central School of Speech and Drama, was buying groceries at the supermarket in Belsize Road near Swiss Cottage on Monday.

But when she approached the checkout with her friend and her dog, a cashier shouted “pets are not allowed”.

Despite the obvious high-viz guide-dog jacket worn by the black Labrador, named Jemma, Ms Makri said staff would not acknowledge the animal was not a pet.

The other two cashiers apparently joined in and said there were "no exceptions”, before being told she could stay for the time being but could not return to the store in future.

That poor woman deserves a full apology and should take complete advantage of disability discrimination laws.

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Looks like the staff need re-training.. Severe lack of intelligence on their part wacko  They should be made to do their job for the rest of the day blindfolded lol

well dogs are intelligent animals .. So store owners are using DOGS AS CASHIERS.,  Some one should put on t-shirt    with a logo

" Viscous Dogs are Working In this Store - Blinds folks and their Guide dogs are not allowed "

and walk in to the store...

    With no guide dog.

I think the problem is actually the black dog.  Any alleged infringement can normally be dealt with by approaching the alleged perpetrator quietly.

But they were shouting, three members of staff!

They were afraid themselves of the black dog!  Why?

Tesco donate £5,000 to charity after blind student shouted at for bringing guide dog to store

well the management realized the mistake  of their staff

    Quote
The supermarket director has since personally apologised to Ms Makri and ITV reports she was offered a £5,000 donation to a charity of her choice – guidedogs.co.uk.

Ms Makri, who previously worked as a conference interpreter and at the University of Leeds, said it was the latest in a series of difficulties she has faced since moving to the capital to study in September.

She sent a message thanking everyone who offered her support and was happy Tesco acknowledged their “great failing” in training practises.

A Tesco spokesman said: "This clearly should never have happened and we will contact Ms Makri directly to apologise. We do allow guide dogs in stores and have reminded colleagues of that. We also offer customers with guide dogs help with their shopping, if they would like assistance."

    so... that is good enough...

Do we know if hadith was a factor or if it was the local store manager who had said "NO DOGS WHATSOEVER!!!" to his minions?

Wouldn't have gone down well with this Kuridsh lady shopping for groceries, I guess.

Don't all stores have to, by law, display one of these?:

I always find the "except guide dogs" part a bit superfluous on those signs - its not like either the dog or the blind person can read it.

Its a notice for visually able people with dogs. Blind people should not need to read it as they should be able to enter unchallenged.

Fascinating video about value of dogs in the classroom.  The programme discusses how dogs reduce stress levels.
