I heard this phrase too much while I grew up. Probably the reason why I get so wary about my decision of leaving Islam. Stupid as it may sound, I guess hearing the same thing over and over, you start believing it.

"If you leave Islam, you'll have bad luck forever."
"If you leave Islam, you'll be lonely and sad."
"If you leave Islam, you're going straight to hell."
"If you have sex before marriage, your marriage will be sad and unsuccessful."
"If you have sex before marriage, the person marrying you won't want you anymore and think you're a slut."

Blah, blah.. I really wish I was brought up a different way. This stuff fucks with my mind.

They were half right, though not believing in a god when everyone around you keep constantly harping on with the whole Allah thing, it was kind of expected. How absurdly cruel to keep traumatizing their children with that kind of nonsense.

Superstitions. Even according to ISLAM, belief in "luck" is shirk.

Don't believe in hell because it doesn't exist and Islam is man made beyond any reasonable doubt just like any other religion. It's not even remotely possible for Islam to be true based on general fact about human culture, biology/evolution, anthropology and history as well as logic and reason. Even more so when we specifically look at the Quran and hadith, and the history and development of Islam

Scare tactics are the main weapon religion holds over believers.

Don't you dare doubt or leave or nasty shit will happen.

If it wasn't for scare tactics most religions would have died out long ago.

i hate it when people telling you what to do. For me, religion is teaching us to live your life to the fullest, not put yourself inside the box.

When I left Islam my now ex Arab Muslim husband told me I was now haram to him and divorced me.. I also found out it was not even a legal marriage anyway since the Imam who married us did not register it.. And so all he had to do was say I divorce thee 3x bullshit and it was as though it had never happened.. He says he hopes I will revert bad then I would be acceptable to him. What a bloody check. I said, "Why would I want to convert back to such a sexist abusive cult if this is the way they treat and view women." He had no reply to that..

I'm sorry to hear that.
All the bad things spoken of when leaving Islam in this thread are caused by Islam itself. Life isn't easy for the ex-Muslim, which is why many people choose to keep their atheism hidden.
