    I've noticed an interesting phenomenon amongst takfiris and jihadis (i.e radical nutcase Muslims) -- the preferred word to describe Muslims who disagree with them, and whom they fight, is 'apostate'.  WTF!  Apostate is one who doesn't believe in Islam anymore, or so I thought.  Also this suggests to me that the word apostate (or rather its arabic word: murtad) is more derogatory than kafir (amongst takfiri Muslims).

    It’s been going on a few years at least. I remember reading stuff on ummah.com back in 2007 that if you didn't pray salah regularly you were basically an apostate(!) mysmilie_977

    allat has said, apostasy codes are the engine of Islamic fundamentalism. Moderate Muslims are discovering how true that is.

    I'm quite proud to be an apostate. I'm not a hypocrite (munafiq), I'm a fucking brutally honest murtad.  I don't believe the steaming pile of dogmas. Apostate is far from a derogatory term to me.

    That's the Hanbali school of BS thought.

    Perhaps in the arab world the word murtad is akin to traitor.

    Well, I ain't no traitor. My parents indoctrinated me with their religion and assumed I will want to follow it when I start thinking for myself, and I decided not to continue following their religion.  Besides, whom is an apostate betraying? Their non-existent God. Well that's a victimless crime.  Their community? Fuck this collectivist sheep-like loyalty to a cult. Think for yourself.

    'Moderate' muslims engage in the same practice when they denounce terrorists as 'not truly Islamic', 'these are not the actions of real muslims', etc.

    Yup, unless can provide an argument why it is nor Islamic their opinions are moot!
