And that thankfully not all Muslims read the texts.

    Indeed!!

I sometimes think the oil money promotion of free copies of the Qur'an in the 70s and 80s and the printing of translations, plus the rise of literacy helped create the problems we see now.

Things were better when people didn't know what their holy book 'actually' said.

I would also like to mention is that these hardline Muslims are afraid of Muslims.

Everytime they see a Muslim vote in a democratic election they view this as a rejection of Islam.

Everytime they see a Msulim woman wearing hijab and engaging in working with ghair mahram in high powered jobs they see this as a rejection of Islam.

Everytime they seek Muslim men socialising and forming strong bonds of kinship with non-Muslims they see it as a rejection of Islam.

Everytime a Muslim reads a comic book, watches a movie, plays sports, wears 'western' clothing and listens to music, theya re rejecting Islam.

Everytime they see kafirs (the common man and woman) provide aid, refer to Islam as a beautiful religion of peace and at the same time live a compeltely secular life style, this goes against everything they were led to believe.

What some of these hardliners are seeing is the dilution of Islamic principles and practices. The Muslims are in fact rejecting the traditional Islamic narratives whilst still retaining the benign (irrelevant?) elements of the faith.

The terrorists are just out there to get our attention - they want everyones attention. They do this because they are afraid of the common Muslims trend towards a secular based Islam that accepts homosexuaity, multiculturalism, democracy, atheism and womens rights.

No free mixing of the sexes is permitted on these forums or via PM or the various chat groups that are operating.

Can I just say I've read this whole thread and I'm very impressed with how civilised this forum is.  This is a highly emotional topic and most forums would have descended into some form of argument by now.

Ah right, so that's the one, i see it's not entirely about the abducted girls, still their satire is a little too sophisticated, you'd have to be french or western to fully understand it.  There's an american who wrote an interesting comment in that arcticle who i think got it spot on, sorry my old, broken down phone can't copy and paste anything but this is part of what he said:

"western cultures like France are too inward looking, greedy, narcisistic to understand non westerners well enough to ever do a devastatingly accurate satire of them...  people should understand that when westerners parody non-western cultures they're usually making a parody of themselves."

doesn't stop me loving satire though.   :/

This is why we need native satire. Satire on Muslims by Muslims. A Muslim made "Life of Muhammad."

Lassana Bathily_ A Muslim Employee At Kosher Market, Saved Several People During Paris Hostage Situation  says News

    Quote
Lassana Bathily, a Muslim employee at Paris Kosher grocery store Hyper Cacher, saved several people by hiding them in a walk-in freezer when a gunman laid siege to his workplace on Friday.

Amedy Coulibaly burst into the market and opened fire, killing 4 people. He took several shoppers hostage and threatened to kill them if police stormed the printing shop where Cherif and Said Kouachi, who killed 12 people in an attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo earlier in the week, were holed up in a village to the north.

Bathily, identified by French media as a "Malian Muslim," helped several customers to safety as the chaos unfolded. "I went down to the freezer, I opened the door, there were several people who went in with me. I turned off the light and the freezer," Bathily, 24, told French network BFMTV. "I brought them inside and I told them to stay calm here, I'm going to go out. When they got out, they thanked me."

It's unclear exactly how many people Bathily managed to hide inside the freezer in the store's basement. City councillor Malik Yettou said that six people and a baby escaped the gunman by hiding there, while BFMTV put the number at about 15.

Meanwhile, another employee at the market escaped through an emergency exit and delivered the keys to the store to the police, according to L'Express. Police raided the supermarket and the printing shop simultaneously, killing the Kouachi brothers and Coulibaly.

Video surfaces apparently showing Amedy Coulibaly pledging allegiance to Islamic State, defending acts of terror in Paris.

The hypocrisy of these leaders knows no bounds.

I refer to Machiavelli quote I posted earlier. They are "great pretenders" and feign all the good virtues, while doing the opposite.

Saudi Arabia and Iran condemning censoring journalism and cracking down on journalists and bloggers would be like if Hitler condemned other countries of antisemitism.

firebomb  Arson attack on Hamburger Morgenpost_ A German newspaper that printed Charlie Hebdo cartoons

    Quote
BERLIN: A German newspaper in the northern port city of Hamburg that reprinted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) cartoons from the French satirical paper Charlie Hebdo was the target of an arson attack early Sunday, police said.

“Rocks and then a burning object were thrown through the window,” a police spokesman told AFP.

“Two rooms on lower floors were damaged but the fire was put out quickly.

“The regional tabloid daily, the Hamburger Morgenpost, had splashed three Charlie Hebdo cartoons on its front page after the massacre at the Paris publication, running the headline “This much freedom must be possible!

“No one was hurt in the attack, which police said occurred at about 0120 GMT.

Two people were detained, while state security  has opened an investigation, police said.

Whether there was a connection between the Charlie Hebdo cartoons and the attack was the “key question”, the police spokesman said, adding that it was “too soon” to know for certain.

Police declined to provide further information about the suspects........................

well that is the to day's news on those cartoons of UNKNOWN PROPHET OF ISLAM..

This is how I interpret the situation.

Islamic terrorists have attacked freedom of expression.  So in return, Liberals have joined forces with Muslims to use this as an opportunity to say you cannot criticise Islam for this as it has nothing whatsoever to do with it.  And, if you dare to express your freedom of speech in stating that you do believe Islam (as a whole) is part of the problem, then will we shout you down, with accusations of racism and Islamophobia?  Again limiting your freedom of speech.

I personally have been not been part of any religion for many years because I consider it a tool for evil and misuse.  Now the deluded mainstream stance has solved this problem but saying all you have to do is credit religion with the good bits and pretend the bad bit have nothing to do with religion.  A new level of insanity!

Yes I would agree with that also Amoku. I like Douglas Murray. I don't agree with everything he says but he does talk a lot of sense and is unafraid to say it.

He joined us on a demo organised by the British Muslims for Secular Democracy with Tehmina Kazi and others and I briefly met him there and I have a lot of respect for him - even though I do disagree with some of his stances.
