    Three east London schoolgirls have flown to Turkey and there are fears they may cross the Syrian border and join the Islamic State terrorist group.

    Shamima Begum, 15, Kadiza Sultana, 16, and an unnamed 15-year-old, pupils at Bethnal Green Academy, flew from Gatwick on Tuesday, during half-term.

    Commander Richard Walton, of the Metropolitan Police, said he feared they were "extremely vulnerable".

    The trio are friends with a fourth girl who travelled to Syria in December.

    Yes I saw this earlier today. I thought this should have dried up by now considering how no-one could be unaware of what a bunch of psychopaths IS are.

    I'm astonished there are still kids stupid enough to think that joining them is in anyway a good move.

    I'm not hardened to it because I like easy-going societies. This stuff doesn't help that.

    I'm not particularly fussed about them (it's their choice, like heroin), but I grieve for societies that can spawn them.

    I'm reading a long espionage thriller called Dark Star at the moment. About a Russian journalist/spy in pre-war Germany. Big evil made possible by ten thousand little evils and a million accomodations with evil.

    On the news the police were expressing concern for these girls saying how badly ISIS treat women. I was facepalming. I'm not being a dick. It was their fucking choice. Britain now has 3 fewer potential terrorists. Hope they like to cook and clean and be doormats for men.

    Yep, by tacitly going along with an ideology/doctrine, it is reinforced. Unfortunately, this also includes all the moderate Muslims who one one hand denounce terrorism, but on the other hand defend the book that is all derives from. No matter if they are completely sincere about their aversion to violence. There was one of those typical 'modern' muslims on a debate recently, with nicely fashionable hijab, clothes etc, stating categorically that you cannot be gay and a Muslim (the debates topic), and that it has to be one or the other, despite her 'modern' views in other areas - how much she deplored ISIL, violence and so on. It was pointed out that by following the same logic as her denial that a gay Muslim is a real Muslim, she wasn't a true Muslim either, in that her face wasn't covered, use of make up, talking in front of men, not averting her gaze etc. She laughed at that with a 'Oh don't be ridiculous' comment, as they do - but drop her in the middle of Raqqa, I think she might very quickly change her tune, her hijab, or her religion. That's one of the problems with reformation, the Muslim voice in the west who have laughed at the idea of a true Islamic state for years crying 'paranoia' - they are helping with the momentum of a big evil, first by denying it, calling radical Islam a tiny minority of loonies, and now by pretending the Koran is innocent, and that it's this 'tiny minority' who go around interpreting it all wrong. Which is actually bollocks, of course.

    Phew, it's okay everyone, this is what one of the Muslim governors of the girl's school had to say;

    "I still don't believe that they are going anywhere other than a holiday - because this is how they were dressed and this is how they looked and this is how they packed,"


    Typical of upstanding moderate Muslims, live in denial right up until you get your face pushed in it. Unless of course he's correct, and that this sort of silly behaviour has dried up all on its own accord, and that all they are doing is going on holiday!

    forget 15 year olds., The way Islam is taught to kids in some homes,  and in some  mosques of UK,  I will not be surprised to hear some 8 year old and 10 year old girls joining that ISIS

    I think that fool has never taken  his family or the school children to a picnic trip or holiday trip..That Idiot has a problem and he should NOT be one of  governors of the Muslim girl's school.. He  should go clean gutters of London for living..

    I'm torn between shouting "amen" at what ateapotist said and a cringey empathy for the girls, especially the youngest one, because I think I could have so easily been like them at certain points in my life. I think it makes them much more revolting to me (more when we're talking about men who go off to fight, which was something that would have sounded very romantic to me in my mid-teenage years), but I'd be lying if I said I couldn't imagine the kinds of thought processes that would find susceptible people in that situation.

    So...yes, they aren't the people who I'd be staying up at night worrying about, and at the same time, there but for the grace of God go I.

    These are just kids being exploited, sure by their own choice, but I can't help but feeling sympathy for what they're going to have to go through now. Its not going to be pretty, at all.
