    ....

People are different - some find comfort in myths. While others seem hard wired to be atheists - people like Dawkins for example  grin12
    ............................................

No.No..no..nooooooooooooooo...  I am pretty certain Richard Dawkins is NOT hard wired., He is NOT against hypothesis/suggestions on a given problem., He is all for inquiring., what he is against is "Stagnating human minds and human progress with some 2000 year old mambo-jumbo... "

    x

well they are tough questions with debatable answers  but suki, what kingdoms., King  doms?  It is a Queen Dorm.,  Ireland is gone ..Scotland is at the edge .. England literally became Lonodn.. Oops I mean Londonisthan

All those  kingdoms are gone., it is only Queen Dorm.,    Kingdoms were  when England used to rule Indian subcontinent, African continent  and most of the world in the last century or two by direct methods., indirect way and hook and crook techniques..

    with best wishes

^ always makes me laugh when a foreign friend, especially an american asks me how is london as opposed to the UK.. Umm dunno next time i visit the south i will let you know lol   : )

Hmm wonder why Dawkings labels himself a "Cultural Christian", as an athiest, does that mean that he favours Christianity over all other religions or is he refering to the British western culture, which historically is flavoured with many cultures of all faiths, not sure what he's implying..  My girls are the same, whenever they have to fill out a form, despite never living it, they tick the muslim box when asked what their religion is, and i say but why, you don't believe in it, you don't pray or fast etc the only thing remotely Islamic you do is eat a chicken kebab every now and again, their answer is, that is what i was born with, fair enough..   But for someone like Dawkings who openly speaks out against religion i find it a bit odd to use it as a label.  I don't know, i'm not sure whether it is right to label oneself a cultural muslim, hindu, christian etc unless you consider yourself to be a watered down non or partially practising follower of one of these faiths..  i'm probably wrong again lol..

I'm moving back to London this summer, i like moving around a lot and get bored easily..

Thanks for the link, i will read it later, i think i just have a problem with labels that's all..   but should an atheist use these words in the same sentence "i'm a ---- christian/muslim/hindu etc " rather than, i appreciate certain aspects of the faith, it's religious festivals etc.  It's just the religious labelling that bothers me really.  well, it doesn't bother me that much   : )  thanks i will take a look at the link, maybe i will understand it more.

^I didn't realise this was already discussed on another page.  Oh that link was just a general website, it's ok though i will read about it all later, it's not that big a deal really..  i was just having a picky moment, atleast we have the freedom to decide what we want to be in the west, that's more important than anything  : )

    have a good weekend all..

It is the environment he was raised in and is surround by. He understands views of Christians, of the denomination he was in, so knows how a lot of believers think and view the world. The UK is predominately Christian thus it's culture is influenced by it.

well bogart.,I would expect a person of that background, that intelligent and that experience in life, his thinking would be independent of the environment he was raised in / surround by..

My be we could think different reason for his words..

Hmm wonder why Dawkings labels himself a "Cultural Christian"

i think he is doing this as a strategic thing. It helps him make the case that there is a large distinction between people who really believe the things in religion, and others who still call themselves religious.

I understand what he's saying. I've never labelled myself a cultural christian but I have appreciation for the fact it's shaped the culture I was born into. I like a lot of churches, cathedrals and abbeys because many of them are very beautiful. I enjoy Christmas, Easter etc. and I can't deny it's part of my upbringing. I wouldn't go so far as to say christianity is in my blood, which some do say, but it's been in many ways the shaper of my society and country of birth. You can't really understand the western world without christianity.

^The last religion i was thinking of joining after leaving Islam was the Bahai faith, where they encourage the unity of all religions, well i hope so, but i had enough of religion at that point and didn't persue it further : )

I've never felt the need to join a religion. I don't see the appeal outside of community. I don't need to join a religion to know if I believe in a higher power or not, and I don't really see how any of these religions know god any better or worse than I do.
