  • Ramadan Is Coming!
     OP - May 31, 2015, 11:49 AM

Hello everyone! I haven't been online for a long time and I hope everyone's been doing well. I certainly know I have, I'm enjoying life a lot more now. dance

Last Ramadan was the time when I had truly started to question my religion (ironic I know, since the devil is supposed to be locked up during that time). I'd never read the english translation of the Quran and wanted to get closer to Allah during the holy month. But it sucked. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I was just really confused because Shaitaan wasn't there so I couldn't even blame him.

Anyway, Ramadan is coming up yet again. Yaaaay.

And you know how Muslims have a tendency to transform into complete imams during this period? Well, that's what my family is planning. They've sort of lost their their grip on faith ever since I did - for example, when I stopped praying, it extended to them. So, they want to 're-establish' their connection with Allah. That means 20 rakah Taraweeh Cry every SINGLE NIGHT.  We have to read the Quran more often (probably on a daily basis) and basically turn into religious nut-jobs.

So, what should I, as an apostate, do? Should I fast or not? Should I pretend to pray or create excuses? Should I just pretend the whole month? I need your help guys.

    Logic be upon you.

Hey it is good to hear you are enjoying life. If you live alone by yourself you can do whatever you want.

Funnily enough my unbelief is like you too happening during ramadan. Funnily enough I read about atheism and how Islam is not true during Ramadan. Not all shaitan are gone during Ramadan. From what I heard those big ones are gone.
I am curious how you stopped praying in front of your family?

It seems like the transformation to complete Imams seems really temporary when Ramadan ends. I guess people would want to meet that important "night" to have their sins forgiven or getting the rewards of a thousand months worshiping.
As an apostate you just fast just for your health, don't need to think too much about religion. Hey it is a good time to lower blood glucose level. This is what I plan to face this with to make it easier. I'll still pray to relax my own mind the normal 5 time prayers. As for taraweeh you could do less than 20, perhaps you could do 8 or skip somedays. Even if you are in the mosque and you are doing 20 you can stop anytime you want.

As for reading the Quran you can read on your own pace or even choose not to read. It is your choice how you practice Ramadan. The fasting part from dawn to dusk is the one that would be most hold in high regard.

Great to see you Aamna Smiley

If you don't want to then don't.

Having said that, if it may cause too much of a problem then perhaps just do as much as you need to keep the peace.

I must admit I groaned when I saw the title. Mainly because eating is going to be terribly late :(

I have forgotten when ramadhan is, been so long..  If you don't want to upset your family and want to show a little respect toward their efforts, eat out and have snacks in your bedroom away from everyones view.

Thanks for replying, and that's interesting. I thought all of the Devils were locked up during Ramadan, maybe there is an evil force I can blame my disbelief on after all.  Roll Eyes

And as for the praying, I gradually stopped - my family and I used to pray together in a big room, except for my dad. He was never religious, he's never fasted or prayed for some reason. So, I just stopped praying with everyone else and said I was praying in my room instead. They thought I had became more religious because of this because I spent so much time in there. Cheesy But I was on sites like CEMB, TSR, just researching about religion, etc. But slowly, the family praying together thing disintegrated and nobody asked each other about it. Now, it's obvious that no one prays except for my mum, who brings it up every once in a while.

I completely agree with you on the act of fasting and am planning to do the full thirty days. It does a lot for your health and cleans out your toxins, so I think I'll join in. Again, thanks for your advice. Afro

Good to see you too Hassan!

And surprisingly, that's what I love about it. The food. But the timing is pretty awful - it's really bad for your body to consume food after about seven. It kind of defeats the whole heathy purpose of fasting to just open the fast with a lot of greasy and oily foods.

    Logic be upon you.

I feel a Fatwa coming on...

Due to long daylight hours and the detrimental effects of sleeping on full stomachs not to mention the extra hardship summer time fasting entails, I hereby give a Rukhsa (licence) to start fasting at 8am and break fast at 6pm.

    Signed.

Depending where you are it is gonna suck in some places as the daylight hours is damn long!  Yeah that is what I heard from my ustad about shaitan, those leaders and big ones are lock up  but not all the small and weak ones. I recall when a Muslim asked why there are still ghost sighting during ramadan.

I see. You can get away with not praying then. Or you can be "religious" in the last ten nights. What is TSR? I can see how religiously murtad you are.  Cheesy  Well it was a painful experience for me then like I was being teared apart inside. It was not like the Ramadan I have before where everything feel so magical. I was in pain that I was really frustrated and felt like hitting myself. Unfortunately I have to faced another Ramadan now but I am more cool with it now.

Depending on your body your digestion and metabolism would slow down at night. As long as you eat healthy food it would not defeat the purpose of fasting like I said for health and having your cells heal itself. It is all to tempting to break fast with many sweet drink, dessert and 3 or more dishes. There is the running joke around Muslim where you get bigger in Ramadan cause you eat so much at night and you can't rukuk in taraweeh as the stomach is too filled. dance

I practice calorie restriction for health reason so this Ramadan is quite an interesting experiment for the fasting side.

    Lmao Hassan.  Cheesy

Oh you could write a  fatwa about you know about following other countries with a shorter daytime so you would have not to go hungry that long! Or better yet countries with full night time for 6 months! Don't need to fast!

Oh it do got me wondering what about in places where daylight is a full 6 months? There is no way you can fast for a full month no food or water.

Tell them you need to spend this Ramadan helping the needy, and volunteer at a food shelf or a homeless shelter. That will get you out of the house and round out your resume, too.
