I have enormous respect for Charles Kennedy for many reasons but his opposition to the war in Iraq was one of them. But perhaps most of all he came across as a man of great humanity and principles which is often lacking in politicians these days.

Yes he was a rare breed. He was far too young to succumb to death. :(

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

I still don't know what to say about this! So sad! A thoroughly decent, human, and unique man! A presence yet down to earth! RIP, and condolences to family, friends, colleagues and fond opponents!

Very sad that he died so young, only 55.  RIP.

I'm a year older than him.

I've not heard the specifics of what he died of. Anyone know?

No, only that he was alone when he died.    Cry

He was a heavy drinker so it's probably heart related, combined with the stress on losing his seat at the elections..

He also had lost his father who he was very close to 2 or 3 weeks earlier.
