Have you tried fasting by abstaining from eating and drinking?

No, just food. Aren't you supposed to die if you go three days without drinking?

`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Last summer I worked out while having a calorie deficit so I can lose muscle. It wasn't hard but I drank water and took my vitamins.Fake fasting it. Maybe just drinking water.

I was thinking of those who are actually going to fast, the atheist/agnostic "muslims" Smiley Not people like us.

I'm an atheist and I will be fasting.

My family obviously doesn't know about my apostasy, but it would be the easiest things in the world for me to sneak food into my room or my office and break my fast. So I don't technically "have to". I just do it because I actually like it. I like pushing myself and see where my limits are, and I don't even get that hungry and thirsty anyway. It helps that since I live in a Muslim-majority country I work less hours so fatigue isn't that much of an issue either.

So, close to getting caught today lmao, I'm pretty sure my parents know i'm not fasting lol. Told them I was going to the dhl place to drop off a few ebay orders. Ended up going to the gym and they see me on the way back, they're talking to me and i'm stood to one side trying to hide the packet of beef jerky in my hand, with sweat dripping down my face in gym clothes.

I found that menthol strangely curbs hunger. If you have any cought drops around one or two suffice if you trying to be sneaky.

I'm an atheist muslim that tried to fast.
The first day I did, wasn't a problem. The second day I had a headache, sore throat and I got a runny nose. So I drank water from the sink in the bathroom. Then I began to feel tired in the evening 4 hours before iftar. Iftar is at 22 hours here...
You could say that i could sleep, but I don't like sleeping. I want to be productive, I don't like doing nothing, wasting my time, it's the only thing I'll never get back once it passes.
So yesterday I sneaked a piece of fruit to the bathroom, and drank a fuckton of water to hide the smell of it and checked my mouth a dozen times to ensure there is nothing left in there.

I actually really like ramadan, but 22 in the night is way too late, I normally get ready to sleep at that time, then I have to pretend to do tarawih at 23:30. I actually meditate with a takke.

I got a question though, does fasting have any health benefit? I see a lot of muslims linking to psuedoscientific websites for the evidence, but is there any real scientific evidence for the benefits of fasting? I have a fever and a runny nose now,
    can this be healthy?

It isn't fasting - it is splurging - gross eating at night and going without in the day.  I thought it was accepted weight increases significantly in ramadan, so actually you are increasing risk of diabetes.

It is extremely dangerous for everyone.  Especially on the roads in the afternoon.

Be holy and religious and kill a child in the afternoon?

Yep, I don't really considered it a fast either, they are flipping day and night that's all, fasting is going without food or minimal food for a day or two, not gorging on greasy samosas before dawn breaks lol, i'm joking. The only people who I think fast correctly in Ramadan are those who eat simple foods for most days throughout the month.

There was a news article a couple days ago claiming that fasting (going without food) for at least 5 days a month can prolong life.

Nope Fasting and binge eating for the sake of some silly religious ritual has no benefit for health..., But if you eat healthy food and once in a while if you keep you stomach empty  from solid food but use liquids to keep that hunger down.  It is healthy.  ...http://www.webmd.com/diet/is_fasting_healthy

It's not healthy at all. Brain function is one of the first things affected during fasting so if you're doing mental work, like most people do, it's going to hurt that. Also body in starvation mode will process the food differently once you do eat, storing more of it, so you're likely to gain weight, especially fatty tissue.

I ate whole-wheat biscuits with nutella in the bathroom when my mother went away for half an hour. Now I have energy for the rest of the day. The bathroom is gonna be my dining room this Ramadan lol.

And thank you all for answering my question. I'm gonna try to sneak food every day.

I saw this experiment where this guy abstained from food for 48 hours. He had water, tea and a single 70 calorie "meal" of instant soup (sort of broth-like) each one the two days. His blood pressure went down for a while and returned once again later.
He concluded that he'd have to do that to himself every month to get a health changing affect.
So does Ramadan-style fasting have health benefits? Probably not.
Does real fasting have health benefits? Maybe.

Not eating and drinking all day long just to gorge everything at night can't be healthy. If it would be only about food and you would be allowed to drink water, it wouldn't be so bad. But not drinking all day long, especially in summer and hot countries, is not only "not healthy", but also life-threatening. Without water you dehydrate, which causes headaches and tiredness.

I guess some people mix up the Islamic fasting, with real fasting where you allow to drink water, tees and soups.

About 300 people in a restive northern region of Algeria have joined a public lunch during Ramadan to protest against what they say is persecution of people who refuse to observe the religious fast.

The lunch on Saturday was highly unusual for North Africa, where people can be arrested for not fasting during the Muslim holy month.

It was held as a demonstration against the decision of security forces to question three young people who were eating outside last week in the Kabylie region during the 18-hour daily fasting period.

"We called this gathering to denounce the inquisition and persecution of citizens who, because of their beliefs, refuse to observe the fast," said Bouaziz Ait Chebib, head of the local Kabylie Autonomy Movement.

The Berbers of the Kabylie are known for a more secular outlook in general than Algeria's majority Arabs, and have had a historically tense relationship with Algeria's government.

In previous years, Kabylie residents who refused to fast during the month of Ramadan faced charges of "acting against Islam".

The lunch in Tizi-Ouzou, about 100 kilometres from Algiers, was not contested by locals who were fasting, nor authorities.

Isis made two youths hang from a beam by their wrists on Monday after accusing them of eating during daylight hours in the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights said.

“Residents of the village of Mayadeen in Deir Ezzor province reported that Isis suspended from a crossbar two boys aged under 18 near the headquarters of the Hissba [jihadi police]”, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

“The children have been suspended by ropes from a pole since noon, and they were still there in the late evening,” he said.

    “Apparently, they were caught eating.”

A placard was attached to them: “They broke the fast with no religious justification.”
