How can we in the west on one hand proudly boast about the liberties of our societies and on the other hand ban preachers who don't advocate liberal values. We criticize societies that oppress minority opinions yet if we ban any opposing view as soon as it becomes threatening then surely the west is being hypocritical and equally oppressive?

It's like many of the elections in Muslim majority countries. The united states believes in democracy and liberalism yet if democracy does not go their way and Islamists win then they shut down the elections

If we really believe in values such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion then we should let people say whatever they like and they will be defeated in intellectual debate, the only people who have anything to fear are those who are wrong.

I think he's probably referring to preachers like dawahman.

I agree with the OP. It seems it's in vogue nowadays to quickly shut down opinions that people have deemed racist or bigoted without engaging them with any real arguments.

Islamic preachers who have been deemed extremists because they want the sharia etc. I am certainly not supporting their view, but banning them? That's not liberal democracy is it.
