     OP - January 10, 2016, 04:53 AM

I'm so happy that I'm free but I'm really saddened by my discovery of no afterlife. It really makes me sad that I'll never my parents and my other loved ones after I die. It really makes sense to me why people hold on to religion even when they doubt its validity.

I loved being a Muslim, it felt so good to be on the winning team and be part of the victorious ones. I was always thanking allah for blessing me to be a muslim instead of someone else. It was such a beautiful lie, emotional nights during taraweeh prayers, bonding moments during islamic get togethers. It felt so good to believe that god was angry at everyone except his Muslims. I felt like a nerd in highschool protected by the class bully (allah)

I'm happy that I realised it all to be fake. I found so many inconsistencies that i couldn't stop denying them (slavery and racism in islam in particular)

    Cheesy

A lot of people who leave religion (including myself) experience something similar. I would go so far to argue that the afterlife aspect is the main reason people adhere to religion in the first place.

For me, having no afterlife beats the alternative offered by the Abrahamic faiths. Eventually, eternity in either heaven or hell would become excruciatingly boring. Reincarnation is somewhat interesting, but way too implausible.

Death is the result of the temporal nature of life. Be glad that life is constantly moving and go with the flow. Without change, there would be no room for development and personal growth. To stand aside from the flow of life and declare yourself to be an eternal, unchanging soul is to stagnate; to rebel against the nature of the cosmos. The cosmos will always win.

Now that you've put up with my laughable attempt at spirituality, watch this video:

    Welcome!  parrot parrot

Has anyone researched if belief in the afterlife might actually be emotionally damaging, by preventing properly saying goodbye and grieving?

    Cognitive dissonance 101?

    Like staying on modecate?

We don't know if there is an "afterlife" or not. What we do know is that the depiction of "afterlife" in religions is pure and utter bullshit.
