  • RIP Bowie
     OP - January 11, 2016, 08:45 AM

David Bowie has died aged 69 after an 18 month battle with cancer .
I can't think of any other figure in popular music / culture who has had the same impact . For old gits like me he played a massive part in making 70's Britain a brighter , freer place and he's remained relevant for decades in a way few of his peers have managed.
A sad loss , although if anyone's had a full life it's Bowie

    I'm sad.

I'm getting to that age in which all my idols are old and frail and sick and I don't like it.

    RIP

He's no friend to the friendless
And he's the mother of grief
    There's only sorrow for tomorrow
    Surely life is too brief

Well, that was a shitty way to start Monday morning.

Leaving aside the music for a second, here's a half-decent interview with the man:

A lot of people sneered at his acting , I think partly out of snobbery and resentment that someone could be successful in different fields , but he was brilliant in Merry Christmas , The Man Who Fell to Earth, and The Hunger

Hmm I didn't see this ., That is indeed true,  I am NOT the  best guide for his work in different fields and I am sure there are plenty of  other folks  here who could tell more about  Mr. Bowie

But David ,... also I know VERY LITTLE ABOUT THE PERSONAL INFORMATION OF MANY HEROES OF MINE , MANY   FOLKS  AND MANY FRIENDS including those i read/interact on web   such as you .. I know NOTHING about them but I know more about their works and the  importance of their work  for public and for humanity in general.

I also didn't know he was a Japanophile ..lol. I guess  Nagisa Ōshima may have changed him with that movie..  well let me read this http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/12/entertainment/david-bowie-iman-feat/

Blackstar is a fantastic song, one of only about three that I really like, plus the first side of Low.

^ I love the second side of Low too.

It has its moments of splendour. Sometimes I like it, sometimes it grates.
