    So it's not about "boobs being out". Why do you think brestfeading is frowned upon? I'd really like to hear your opinion, especially if there is someone who shares the view. It seemes like mist people who had a problem were men. Can it be because a highly sexualized female body part so clearly is no longer (currently, at least) not available on "the market" for other men? Or...?

    No idea what the problem is. Maybe they didn't get enough when they were babies. Maybe they work for infant formula companies. Maybe they're just stupid.

    On second thought, and just guessing, it may be that some people are conditioned to find breast feeding as abhorrent as other bodily functions. So they may view it something like taking a dump in public. You'd have to ask them.

    Seeing a woman breastfeed her baby gets me hot and bothered. That way I know if I had a baby with her, the baby would be well taken care of.

    The thing is that people have tried asking why some (mostly men) are so bothered by a woman breastfeeding her baby in public, while not showing any breast or nipple (mom's tend to be quite discrete with the whole thing, covering up with a blanket even though it's often a nuisance)... And they really don't have an answer. "It's disgusting", "I bothers me", "I feel uncomfortable". Yeah, but why? Why is it disgusting, when you are feeding a baby its milk, from a body part that was designed to do so Roll Eyes So my thoughts are going in the direction that it has to do with the monopoly on women's sexuality that some seem to feel, perhaps even unconsciously so, and when they see sucking on their mom's breast they immediately find it disgusting... Because they do the same, but in a more sexual context....

    A woman breastfeeding a baby is one of the most beautiful thing I've seen. Also breastfeeding me  grin12

    I have no idea to be honest it may well be what you say Cornflower. To be honest, I don't stare at women breastfeeding in public, out of respect, but it's a lovely sight anyways.

    TBH I can see it making some people feel mildly disconcerted if they aren't used to seeing it. Being raised somewhat old school myself, I remember feeling mildly disconcerted when public breastfeeding started becoming a bit of a thing in the circles I moved in. I never bothered analysing why this was, since I didn't think it was a big enough deal to be worth analysis. I could see the sense of breastfeeding (best start for the kid) and it's a bit bonkers to have to jump through hoops every time the kid is hungry (like every ten minutes or whatever) so I just shrugged off the mildly disconcerting side of it and got on with normal social interactions.

    As far as I can remember, the mildly disconcerting side of it was probably because just randomly flashing yer tits in the middle of a normal social situation is not the sort of behaviour that tends to produce equanimity in the audience. So if pre-programmed to react to randomly appearing tits in the usual fashion, tits randomly appearing due to rugrats is sorta a bit of an eyebrow raiser at first.

    Can't think of what else it would be.

    Haven't given it much thought though.

    I've certainly never felt sexually possessive or threatened by tits being situated on the chests of other people's partners. Nor have I ever found that having seen a rugrat at feast in any way reduced my own enjoyment of tits in other, more sexual, situations. parrot

    Yeah, boobies and asses and twerking is hot. But breastfeeding is too much for the old school conservatively raised lads Grin

    No, I get your point os. It's just that it doesn't make sense. I don't buy that it has to do with being "raised conservatively" and that's why people behave like uptight Victorians as soon as a mom is feeding her baby.

    At least you were reasonable enough to get over it and move on with your life.

    And BTW, I've never seen a breastfeeding parent flashing her breast. They tend to be extra careful not to expose it. It has more to do with the fact that people know that she has her breast out of her bra.

    Yeah the whole thing is a bit bonkers. Some women aren't that shy about it. Others are. When you think about it, being shy about it is, in a way, an indication that the woman herself thinks there's something wrong about the situation. Why does she have to be shy? Only reason is "ZOMG! It's a tit! In public! ZOMFG!!!!!".

    The really funny thing here is that, in the same circles, some of the women would merrily go topless at the beach and nobody gave a rat's. We'd all just sit around chatting like normal. Other times, throw a baby into the mix and suddenly it's supposed to be embarrassing or whatever.

    I think it should be perfectly socially acceptable for anyone to walk about in public nude, so I'm afraid my own view on this is going to be a bit out of the normal.

    So obviously I think the exposure part is okay. As far as the whole "bodily function, ew gross", well I kind of get that, but for the most part women tend to be pretty discreet when doing this, so I just don't find it a problem. At this point I feel its sort of like the whole gay lesbian kissing thing, where it used to be a really big deal, so people would do it for shock/raising awareness what have you, but now it doesn't get much of a second look. The same way I think breast-feeding is just likely to become more and more acceptable to the point of being mundane. My own 2ps.

    I still can't really understand or accept people finding it gross or disgusting as a "bodily function". It's a baby eating. It's food. From a body part that I've never heard of people thinking is "nasty", "dirty" or "disgusting". It's not shit coming out of the ass. It's milk (food) coming out of a breast.

    I doubt that people's disgusted reactions have anything to do with them thinking that breastfeeding is sexual. I think it's because breastfeeding is the exact opposite, and they're too childish to handle seeing breasts in a non-sexual context. Then there's the issue of breastmilk itself being seen as "gross" by them.

    My thought went in that direction as well. All it boils down to is control and monopoly over women's bodies (and everything connected to that, such as sexuality etc).

    I'll never forget the the video of the hysterically aggressive man on the subway who yelled and just acted like a giant asshole towards a woman who was breastfeeding her baby. On the video, you see she's not flashing her boob, if someone would like to argue about it being indecency. He was the one who bothered everyone else, but couldn't stop yelling at the woman like a mad man how "bothered" he was by her breastfeeding. Trying to intimidate her into changing seats.
